Dorothy L. “Dot” (Dekow) DeMonico a long time resident of North Woburn, passed away, Saturday, May 25th. The beloved wife of the late Mario (Murry) F. DeMonico, she was ninety three years of age.
Born in Somerville, Dot moved with her family to North Woburn where she resided for more than eighty years. It was there that Dot met Murry, as he lived in the same neighborhood!
They later married and brought five children into the world; Richard, Donna, Paul David and Elaine. Sadly Mario passed away suddenly at the age of forty eight and Dot focused the rest of her life, continuing to raise their children.
Dot loved to cook and there was always room at her table for 1 more or 20! Whether she got her recipes from “her” cooking shows (which she loved to watch and then practiced what she learned!!) or from her own recipe book, she was amazing cook! Her meatballs, and sauce (which was a family recipe taught to her by Murry’s Mother) was an all-time favorite. She then passed the torch and taught this same recipe to her children and grandchildren!
Throughout the years Dot opened her home to her mother and brother Bobby giving them a roof over their head and all the incredible food she prepared daily! As time passed, she tended to them throughout illness giving of herself until their deaths.
Once all her kids were grown; Dot got a job in the housekeeping department at the Ramada Inn where she met many people and made some wonderful friendships.
Dot’s greatest joy though came from being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all her family members. “Grammy” as she was lovingly called followed each of them as they grew. From sporting events, school plays, graduations (high school and college) to weddings to becoming a great grandmother 16 times over! Dot was truly blessed.
Dot was a very quiet and unassuming sole. Always a very hard and dedicated worker throughout her life. When it came to family and friends, there was nothing in the world she would not have done for anyone of them.
Sadly, after the loss of her husband, Dot lost her son Richard DeMonico. Dot is lovingly survived by her daughter Donna Tortolano, her husband Paul, David DeMonico his wife Barbara, daughter and lifelong caretaker Elaine DeMonico all of Woburn and Paul DeMonico, his wife Debbie of Billerica…
