John Francis Garvey, III – a lifelong resident of Woburn, died suddenly, March 11, 2019 at his home. John was the eldest son of the late John and Evelyn (St. Hilaire) Garvey.

John started his career at Walsh Auto Body in Somerville. He later worked as a truck driver for Winn’s Express of Woburn. He was a skilled mechanic and worked alongside his brother Bill at “Garvey’s Auto Repair” in Woburn for many years.

John was a proud Woburnite who loved his community. He contributed to many food banks, and supported the Dwelling Place Soup Kitchen for many years. He enjoyed reading, fishing, coin collecting and country music, as well as playing his lucky numbers. John had fun attending concerts and comedy shows with his daughter, as well as being on call for all his family’s car repairs. He was incredibly handy, and could fix virtually anything. He had an eagle-eye for finding small treasures and liked to share them with anyone who would enjoy them.

John loved food and anything to do with food. He appreciated making a good meal, as well as dining out with his family. We will remember his fondness for trying different cuisines, his love of hot sauce, and his ability to put any type of food between two pieces of bread. Many will miss eating his special homemade baked beans. He will be greatly missed by everyone who enjoyed his storytelling and forever admired for his hard work and dedication.
