Elizabeth V. “Betty” (Carella) Galluzzo, 88, a resident of Woburn, died peacefully on February 13th surrounded by the love of her family.  She was the beloved wife of Anthony “Tony” Galluzzo for 66 years.

Elizabeth was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy, a daughter of the late Rosario and Maria (Bellcastro) Carella. She immigrated to Arlington, Massachusetts, where she received her primary education.

Betty had a love and passion for children and found her calling in teaching. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Salem State College and taught first grade in Athol and then Gardner, Massachusetts. After raising eight children, she taught pre-kindergarten for nearly 30 years as a beloved lead teacher at Child’s Preschool and later Little Hands Big Hearts Preschool in Woburn.

Betty was a devoted, loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her family was the centerpiece of her life and her lasting legacy as the matriarch of 8 children, 26 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren – all of whom adored her and were inspired by her.

Betty shared her love and generous spirit through kind words and deeds, heartfelt prayers, and delicious, home-cooked food.  Family, friends, and passers-by enjoyed the warmth of her love sitting around the kitchen table during boisterous family dinners, relaxing cups of tea and “S” cookies, and soul-nourishing original recipes from Tony’s bountiful garden.  She was a longtime, dedicated communicant of St. Barbara’s Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher and life-long participant in bible studies. Betty was very active and enjoyed swimming at the YMCA where she made many friends. Her faith, spirit, smile and love of her family will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Dear sister-in-law of Sal Galluzzo, his wife Christine of Stoneham. Cherished “Nana” of twenty-six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
