Josephine C. (Giarrizzo) D’Eon, passed away Thursday, January 3rd, at Pine Knoll Nursing Center, in Lexington. The beloved wife of the late Robert F. D’Eon, she was eighty-eight years of age.

Born and raised in Waltham, Josephine was the daughter of the late Maria Filippa (Russo) and Pasquale Giarrizzo of Sicily, Italy. She remained in Waltham all throughout her high school years, graduating from Waltham High School, along with the Class of 1948. Following high school, Josephine continued her education for the next two years at the Kathleen Dell School of Brookline. It was there, where she studied to be a medical assistant and secretary. A very bright and articulate young woman, Josephine graduated at the top of her Class as the Valedictorian.

Following graduation, Josephine went right to work, securing herself a position with Dr. H. Myer Bloomenthal of Boston and then Dr. Edward J. Levenson.

September 5th, 1955 Josephine married her best friend and sweetheart, Bob D’Eon. Over the years they brought two sons into the world. She remained at home and tended to her children and her home. In her forties, she returned to work at the Burlington Medical Associates, retiring in her early fifties to tend to her parents.

Josephine developed breast cancer and truly fought a most courageous battle, when several years later, lung cancer became another battle for her to fight, which she did, with every ounce of courage. She had survived once again. As a result of these two major issues in her life, Josephine decided to become involved in a National Research Study, which continued right up to the very end of 2018. There were several changes made to the different protocols for breast cancer during this time; and Josephine felt that she had helped other woman and men through these changes.

Josephine and Bob had enjoyed travelling over the years, with many visits to the Cape and different islands throughout the Caribbean. Spending time with her grandchildren was nearest and dearest to her heart.

Josephine is lovingly survived by her dear sons, Robert J. D’Eon, his wife Carolann of CT and Paul F. D’Eon, his husband Lloyd Erickson of Woburn. Dear sister of Rocco Giarrizzo of NH. Very special Grandmother of Gregory D’Eon, his wife Joy of Somerville and Jacquelene D’Eon Tangarone, her husband Josh of CT.
