John F. “Doc” O’Doherty, Sr.  –  of Woburn, December 26th, at ninety five years of age.  Beloved husband of the late Theresa (Gill) O’Doherty.  Devoted father of Brendon P. O’Doherty of Woburn and the late Gerard P. O’Doherty.  Dear brother of the late Eleanor Gaffney of Woburn. Uncle of Mark, Bruce, Jay, Brian and Keith Gaffney.  A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn Saturday, January 5th at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10.  Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Calling hours in the Funeral Home, Friday evening from 4-8 p.mRemembrances may be made in Doc’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101.

John F. “Doc” O’Doherty passed away, Wednesday, December 26th.  The beloved husband of the late Theresa (Gill) O’Doherty, he was ninety five years old.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (O’Doherty) O’Doherty. Raised in the West Side, Shaker Glenn, section of the city, Doc attended Woburn Schools and was a graduate of Woburn High School, along with the Class of 1941.  

Immediately following high school, Doc served in the United States 2nd Air Commandos, in the CBI Theatre of Operations, where he held the rank of S/Sgt. Doc remained on, and also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Throughout his life time, Doc was a dedicated employee of the United States Government, serving the Postal Service, here in Woburn. He was a life member of  Post 101, American Legion of Woburn and also of Post 113, Disabled American Veterans, in Burlington.

Doc was predeceased by his parents John and Margaret, his wife Theresa and son Gerard.  Devoted father of Brendon P. O’Doherty of Woburn.  Dear brother of the late Eleanor Gaffney.  Uncle of Mark, Bruce, Jay, Brian and Keith Gaffney.

    Dear Brendon,
    I am so sorry to for your loss. Doc was always so nice to me. He would come visit my Mom and they would laugh so loud. My house was a happy place when he was there.
