Paul E. Scribner Sr, 62, passed away suddenly due to a brain aneurysm at MGH surrounded by his wife and children on Sunday July 15, 2018. Beloved husband of Paula (Sassone) Scribner. Devoted father of Paul E. Scribner, Jr., his wife Jennifer, Jarrod Scribner, his wife Melissa all of Woburn, Jill MacTaggart, her husband Mark of Saugus. Cherished, “Grandpa”, Caleb, Calen, Calista, Calex, Emma, Isla, and Jack. Dear brother of Rob Hasselbaum of Attleboro, Rick Hasselbaum of Atlanta, GA, Jananne Madison of N. Billerica, Tricia Scribner Ross of Pennsylvania, and the late Thomas Scribner, formerly of Woburn.

Born in Woburn, Paul was raised in the Central Square section of the city, and was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 1973.  While growing up, Paul worked closely with his father, in the autobody industry.  Everything Paul knew, he learned from his Dad. Paul passed this trade on to his oldest son Paul Jr. a decade ago. Just over a year ago, Paul and his son, Paul Jr., were able to bring the business back to Woburn and work side by side, each day, as he and his dad did years earlier. Much to their hard work, dedication and most supportive families, they achieved their dream come true.

Paul and his wife Paula were soul mates for over twenty-five years.  They did everything together. Whether it was golfing here at home or on the beautiful links in Cape Coral, Florida, they enjoyed spending the round together. Paul and Paula had many travel adventures together which included cruises, traveling the states, multiple countries and several trips to Paul’s mother’s native country, Wales.

Paul’s star shone brightest as a grandfather. His kind heart and cool demeanor beamed while chasing the kids on a sunny day at the lake or sledding down the homemade hills in the driveway in Freedom, NH. He had a special bond with each one of his grandchildren which will live in their hearts forever.

Along with a kind heart, he was also very compassionate to local charities. He donated generously to a place near and dear to him, The Woburn Boys and Girls Club as well as the The Home for Little Wanderers. Paul’s generosity continued after life as an organ donor where his kidneys were able to save the lives of two recipients.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours at Lynch Cantillon Funeral Home, Friday, July 20, 3-7 p.m. as well as the funeral service on Saturday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Woburn, 3 Winn Street. Remembrances may be made in his memory to JackStrong Corp., 19 Carlson Way, Woburn, MA 01801 to support his loving grandson Jack.

  1. Frank Maddaloni (Empire Auto Parts)

Paul was a great person. I dealt with for many years selling him Auto Body Parts. We got along great. He often talked about his grandchildren, golfing, and spending time in Florida. My deepest condolences to his family.

  2. I had the pleasure to meet Paul on two occasions recently. The first day I met him I joked with him immediately, just had a sense that he was the “what you see is what you get” kind of guy and I was right. I met him again the following day and learned more about him. He was on a mission. He wanted to find a special place for his family because family, for this man, was the reason he did everything. I interacted with Paul only twice but I will never forget him.

So sorry to hear of Paul’s passing. May memories of good times and the love of family and friends bring you comfort.

  4. Kathy Edmiston

My love and prayers are with you. I am very happy to have known Paul and always enjoyed spending time with him. It was obvious how much he loved his family. He was a great guy even if he did tease me for being a Steelers fan.

  5. My thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s family. So sorry for your loss.

  6. Christine Dolan

I am truly sorry for your loss. Paul was such an incredible person, always willing to help. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

  7. Rev. Mary Bettencourt

It has been an honor to know Paul in my life. He was a good man and fine example one for whom life had been difficult, but he overcame so much. Paul loved his family and wanted so much for our world to be “right”. My condolences to all of his family and extended family. I will see you all on Saturday at First Baptist Church for his service.
    Many blessings,
Rev. Mary Bettencourt, Former Pastor, The First Baptist Church in Woburn
