Viola “Vi” (DeSalvo) Tancredi, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice Home in Reading on Wednesday, June 13th after a brief illness.  The beloved wife of John J. Tancredi Sr, she was eighty-seven years of age.

Born in Woburn, Viola was one of twelve children born to the late Salvatore and Maria (Urando) DeSalvo.  Not was she only one of twelve, but Viola was born as a triplet; the first ever in the City of Woburn!  Her sister Rose and late brother Carl were born as triplets and sadly after six months, Carl passed away.

Raised and educated in Woburn, Vi was a graduate of Woburn High School, class of 1948.  Following high school, Vi began working for a book binding in company Winchester.

In 1954, Vi married the love of her life, John Tancredi. Together, they travelled the next sixty-four years side-by-side.

They brought two sons into the world to whom they were devoted and dedicated to.  Vi’s cooking could not be beat!  Breakfast, lunch and particularly dinners, were done with outstanding results. Desserts, especially her cookies, were famous amongst family and friends.  When Vi went visiting  family or friends, she was never empty handed and always had wonderful treats in hand! Academics, social events and any sports involvement were all totally supported by Mom.  Vi had even worked as a Lunch Time Monitor as the boys passed through the Shamrock School.

Faith and family were the optimum priorities in Vi’s  life.  Her Church and all the activities there were always of utmost importance.  Her family brought her tremendous joy.  A very happy, warm, loving woman, Mom or Grammy, was there always with a big, beautiful smile and warm hug.

Vi’s love for her husband, children, grandchildren, sisters and brothers was unconditional and lifelong.  Sharing a life long, very special relationship with her twin sister, Rosie.

Sadly, Vi is predeceased by her siblings Robert, James, Paul, Christopher, Carl and Joseph DeSalvo, Bessie Saro, Susan Barbaro and Vera Galimi.

She is lovingly survived her husband, John J. Tancredi Sr., her son, John J. Tancredi Jr., his wife Maria of Woburn and David P. Tancredi, his wife Lisa Panella of Wakefield; her siblings, Rose Ventresca of Woburn, Eleanor Lucontoni of Malden; sisters-in-law, Fern DeSalvo of Woburn, Donna DeSalvo of OH, and Shirley DeSalvo of NH; grandchildren, Kelly M. and Sara R. Tancredi. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great and grand.
