John M. “Jack” Russo Jr., 86, of Woburn, died peacefully June 11th at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Margaret A. (Holzman) Russo.

Born in Cambridge, Jack was a son of the late John and Frances (Costello) Russo. He was raised and educated in Woburn and attended Woburn High School. After High School, Jack served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict as a member of the US Coast Guard, until being honorably discharged.

Jack was a self made entrepreneur. He was co-owner and founder of Jack and Bob’s Clam box in Wakefield. After it’s closing, he worked for a short time for the US Post Office in Woburn and a member of the Carpenter’s Union. He then owned and operated for 20 years, the North Woburn Hardware store, which he operated with his family. Along with his brother-in-law Jake and brother, Frank, they also ran a real estate company for many years.

Jack’s commitment to his role as husband, father and grandfather and great-grandfather was his focus, but he continued to develop interests throughout his life. He was a generous, loving and selfless man who would do anything for the ones he loved and strangers alike. After his retirement, travel became a part of Jack and Margaret’s life. They traveled in a camper all over the country, covering almost all 50 states. When they weren’t traveling, they would spend their time on their orchard and farm in Appleton, ME that they affectionately named “Over the Hill Farm”. There, Jack excelled in gardening and tended to his many apple trees all year round, no matter the weather.

An early adopter of technology, Jack was a proud member of Facebook, and enjoyed being able to keep up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anytime a new I-phone came out, Jack was the first to get it so he could FaceTime and connect with his family, as well as keep up with the current times.

Jack was a proud member and former past President of the Woburn Lions Breakfast Club as well as a member of the Woburn Elks. He was a supporter of all Woburn Sports, even inviting them to have camp outs and various events at his farm in Maine.

Jack is survived by his wife, Margaret and was the loving father of John Russo, his wife Donna of Billerica, Susan Dodge, her husband, the late Steven, of Billerica, David Russo, his wife Kathleen of Burlington, Margie Mannke, her husband Edward of China, ME, Danny Russo, his wife Tracey of Woburn and Timmy Russo, his wife Keley of Lunenburg, MA. Dear brother of Beverly McLaughlin, her husband, the late John “Jake” of Woburn, Frank Russo of Woburn and the late Joseph Russo. Also survived by many dear nieces, nephews and countless friends.
