OBITUARY:

Michael J. Martel passed away at his home, with his beloved family by his side, Friday, March 3rd. The beloved husband of Linda (Couture) Martell, he was seventy-three years of age.

Born in Boston, Michael was the son of the late Harold and Alice ((Crosby) Martel. He attended St. Charles Elementary School and then on to Woburn High School where he graduated with the Class of 1961. Michael had a great interest in heating and ventilation, so he followed up by attending HVAC schooling and received all the necessary training and certifications. This was his chosen professional career, which spanned over forty years.

Upon completion of his HVAC schooling Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country during the Viet Nam War. When he returned after the War he settled in Pepperell and raised his family, later moving to Chelmsford.

He loved his family and his home. He had various and insundrious outside interests! He taught himself and passed on to his children how to make and design beautiful stone walls, impeccable gardens with an added demention of a fish (Koi) ponds. Michael also became a resource person for the community, when it came to bee’s, he prided himself in the Bee Keeping domain in his back yard, also enjoying his participation in the Middlesex County Bee Keeper’s Club, where he was also very active.

Family trips to the White Mountains, Twin Peaks to be exact , was a week spent with all the Martel families, just enjoying each others company and catching up on the year gone by! Always planning the next family reunion, before they left.

Michael loved to cook, particularly over the grill. He and his son had made their very own special “rub” for bbq’s, which yes, is the family secret recipe and only given to others by request! The rub that is, not the recipe!

Michael and Linda were to have celebrated twenty five years of marriage in May of this year. They shared a wonderful relationship and had so many happy times over the years. From the trips, vacations and family fun times to their weekly gatherings at J.J. Boomers with their friends, both actively involved in the Pepperill Lions Organization over the years, to salt or fresh water fishing, and sharing pleasant walks, they cherished it all!

Michael lived life well. He was a very kind, generous and thoughtful person who honestly couldn’t do enough for those whom he loved. Being Pepe’ to his three outstanding grandchildren provided him some real special times with the next generation of Martels, whom he loved so much and was so very proud of. Michael was also the past president and a dedicated lifetime member of the Pepperell Lions Club.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Harold and George Martel and brother in law Stephen Schissler. I love you always. I’ve always felt so Proud of you being my Brother. I’m going to miss all the talks we add and yes, even you teasing me. You told the best stories, especially about your Honneys, not Linda, the Bees. We share a lot of good memories, our card games in Pepperill, you walking me down the aisle, cookouts which always included the basketball game 21 with You and I against Harold and Joe. We always won fair and square with u taking score. Ha.🤥 Anyways I find myself laughing, not crying, when I think of you.
