Evelyn O. “Evie” Sousa passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center early Monday morning, November 21st, after a brief illness. The beloved wife of Fred F. Sousa, she was eighty three years of age.
Born in Montreal Canada, Evie was raised and educated Montreal. She began her professional career in the clothing industry, opening her own clothing store in downtown Montreal. For a few years, until she had gone to visit her sister in this area. When she came to visit her sister who lived locally, her sister had surprised her and set up a date for her while she was here visiting. Well, that was the beginning of a journey that just celebrated fifty years of marriage last week.
Evie had returned home, came more frequently for visits, finally moving here and marrying her best friend Fred and spending the rest of her life with Fred.
They nestled into the Central Square section of the city where they made their home for all these years. Evie had worked in electronics industry in Wilmington for a while having made some very special friendships.
Evie enjoyed taking cruises with her friends, but what she loved most was spending time at home with Fred. She had a wonderful garden that each year she would harvest all the tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and various other vegtables. Having been brought up in an Italian family, she learned a lot of wonderful recipes from her Mom, that she passed right along to her family. Her sauce, meatballs and pasta were truly out of this world and how it was served, was to perfection!
Evie was a very kind, thoughtful and giving woman. Volunteering to help others came very easy to Evie, as she was very sensitive to peoples needs. Wide Horizons was certainly a place where she thoroughly enjoyed being of assistance.
Evie was lovingly survived by her beloved husband Fred and children Steven Sousa, of Woburn, Cathy Fercher of TX and the late Michael Sousa.
