OBITUARY:

Joan M. (Hooper) Marks passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center early Wednesday morning August 31st, she was seventy four years old. The beloved wife of the late Lawrence E. “Larry” Marks who sadly passed away six months ago. Born in Cambridge, Joan lived briefly in Boston, and then to Stoughton at an early age. It was there that she was raised and educated, graduating from Stoughton High School along with the Class of 1957. Following high school Joan began working for John Hancock . It was there that she met some friends whose brothers were serving in the Army overseas and asked others if they would please write to them,so that they would get some mail. We Joan did! Larry Marks was the soldier to whom she wrote and when he returned they met, fell in love and then married!

They made their home in Woburn where they brought into the world two daughters, to whom they were devoted. Invested in everything they did in school, after school and around school, they were always there. For several years they were involved with the Color Guard in High School, and the Marks met many other parents who were enjoying the same activity and together they all had a ball! When summer arrived the family was off to York Beach, Maine where all the summer fun took place. Relatives and friends of all would all join them during their time there and many happy memories were made.

As life moved along and the children married, “Neena” was the best! Her visits, babysitting skills, storytelling abilities were all a part of being a grandmother with a very special name and very special talents! She shared a loving and unique relationship with her five grandchildren and two very dear nephews throughout her life.

Joan loved to travel! Resorts, ships, planes and trains, if it had a destination that she would enjoy, it was worth looking into! Her favorite place to enjoy though was Sandals were they had visited different islands numerous times.

Once you met Joan or Joan met you, she always remembered you! Truly a wonderful gift she shared throughout her lifetime with everyone she knew, was her sense of humor. Joan embraced life each and everyday to the fullest. If she saw an opportunity to help or assist anyone, in any way, she did. Joan’s greatest gift in life was her family. She shared her love, each and every day, always with a warm smile and big hug.

Sadly, Joan was predeceased by her husband of forty eight years, Larry.

Joan was the devoted mother of Noreen M. Donovan and her husband Brian of Melrose and Pamela Kelly and her husband Robert of NH. Dear sister of Claire Russell of Stoughton. Cherished “Neena” of Katie, James and Benjamin Donovan and Brooke and Grace Kelly. Joan is also survived by her nephews Richard and Joseph Labadini of Revere along with many other loving nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Tuesday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
