David A. Super Stoddard passed away at his home Saturday, August 27th with his beloved family at his bedside. The loving husband of Anna M. (Lanzillo) Stoddard, he was seventy-nine years of age.
Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Reginald and Florence (Winn) Stoddard. Raised and educated there, he was a graduate of East Boston High School. Following high school, Super enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for three years during the Korean War.
Upon his return home he secured a position in 1967 with Delta Airlines as an airplane mechanic, where he remained for thirty years until his retirement.
In the late fifties, New Years Eve , Super was out with friends doing the social scene, when he met a lovely young woman, Anna Lanzillo! Well, the new year rang in and a new relationship had begun. They were married in 1959 and have journeyed together over the last fifty seven years, side by side.
They brought a daughter and son into the world, whom they cherished. They had moved to Woburn in 1974, where they nestled right in and have remained. Super was very handy around the house and was able to fix just about anything that needed fixing! He loved music and enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra to Willie Nelson and all the oldies but goodies! Sports, sports and more sports, Super thoroughly enjoyed all the Boston teams and had always been a follower since he was young. Super was also an extremely creative artist. He took to the canvass with paints and when he was finished it was a masterpiece. He had a great love of the ocean and was able to capture the true essence of the water, along with lighthouses, sun, moon and sky; absolutely no lessons, just self taught. Actually he was so good he was a member of the Woburn Guild of Artists and had been the recipient of many ribbons. In turn, many relatives and friends are the very fortunate, who have these in their homes.
As his children began families of their own he became the very Proud Papa. He so enjoyed all the activities, fun and joy that they all brought into his life.
A very stoic gentleman Super was truly a very sensitive, kind, generous and thoughtful man. A wonderful sense of humor, he had a wonderful gift of being able to tell a story like no other. The greatest gift throughout his life though was his family and dear friends for whom he had a tremendous love for.
Super was a life long member of the East Boston Buddies Club.
Sadly in addition to his parents, Super was predeceased by his siblings, Elizabeth “Betty Healey, Carol Kelly and her husband Frank, and Priscilla Senter and his very precious grandson Cole Stoddard.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Anna M. (Lanzillo) Stoddard; his children, Denise Tracy and her husband John F. Jr. of Milford and Anthony Stoddard and his wife Michelle of NH; his siblings James Stoddard and his wife Jerri of Saugus and Steven Stoddard and his wife Janet of Tewksbury. He is the dear brother-in-law of Kenneth Healey of Peabody and Ray Senter of FL. David is the treasured “Papa” of Kevin Tracy and his wife Mami, David, Sean, Tyler and Shaylyn Tracy and Tara and Troy Stoddard. A Funeral will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Saturday, September 3rd at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call at the Funeral Home from 9 – 11 prior to the Service.
