OBITUARY:

Margaret M. “Molly” (Kelly) passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center on May 26th after a brief illness. The beloved wife of the late Frederick W. Adgate, she was ninety one years of age.

Born in Westford, Molly was the daughter of the late James P. and Margaret (Smith) Kelly. Being one of nine children they were all raised and educated there, Molly graduating from Westford Academy along with the Class of 1942.

The war had broken out and Molly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and very proudly served her country. While stationed at the Chelsea Naval Yard, Molly had met Freddie Adgate, a fellow Navyman. They dated, love blossomed and in 1946 they married!

Settling in East Woburn in 1949 there they remained over the years. Having brought six children into the the world Molly was always quite busy! When it came to her children and their adventures growing up, she was always a part of it all. With five sons, all of whom played baseball, Molly felt like a permanent fixture at Weafer Park, so much so she began manning the snack shop there! During the seventies and eighties and all the children where in and headed out of school, Molly became part of the School Lunch program, were she had served as a “Lunch Mother” over at her neighborhood Goodyear School, which was a position she thoroughly enjoyed.

Molly was also very active in her faith community. She helped out at St. Joseph’s Church, wherever and whenever she was needed and was an active participant in the Catholic Woman’s Club there at the church.

Molly was a very vivacious woman all throughout her lifetime. If you met her for the first time or had known her for years, her exuberant personality was ever present. Her love of life, family and her and all the good things, she shared with family and friends alike. Molly’s greatest accomplishment though was her family! All six of her children and then her grandchildren coming along, brought her great pride and joy, over the years. Their achievements and accomplishments throughout the years were thoroughly enjoyed.

Molly remained close to her siblings throughout the years and often visited California to join in family reunions and celebrations! Actually on several occasions Molly, her husband and kids drove out and made a more extensive journey, visiting many places along the way.

A very kind, thoughtful and generous woman, Molly lived a life that was full and has left some wonderful memories for her children, grandchildren and now great-grandchildren to remember.

Sadly Molly was predeceased by her parents, siblings James, Kathleen “K”, Veronica “Ronnie”, Joseph, Rita, Leo and her dear husband Frederick.

Molly is lovingly survived by her children, Kathleen Adgate of Woburn, James F. Adgate and his wife Sue of Greenfield, Stephen W. Adgate and his wife Donna and Paul F. Adgate both of Woburn, Michael J. Adgate and his wife Mary of West Roxbury, and Peter K. Adgate and his partner Nicholas Paul of Australia, her siblings Daniel Kelly and Shirley Kelly both of CA , dear grandchildren Ryan, Justin, Jeannette, Sarah, Sean, along with great grandchildren Jaidyn and Nathan.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, June 1st at 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 11. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Internment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Remembrances may be made in “Molly’s” memory to Woburn Little League P.O. 2. Dear Kathy, Michael, Peter, and family, who I am acquainted with via the Woburn school system. Kathy was a colleague, and Michael and Peter were my Spanish students. Peter, remember our exchange program in Venezuela? Those were the days. I am so sorry to hear about Mom’s death. Sincere condolences to all of you. She was a wonderful mother concerned about your academic progress who never failed to visit me on Parent’s night at school. Happily I never had anything bad to say to her about her boys.
    Special regards and affection,
    Janet and Peter Celi

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. My Mom Eloise Magee loved Molly and your Dad—(especially chatting after Mass at St Joseph’s). I too remember her as a recess monitor at the Goodyear School.
