OBITUARY:

Catherine E. (Shea) Taylor passed away at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Friday evening May 6th. The beloved wife of the late James E. Taylor, she was ninety six years of age. Born in Woburn in the same house where she lived her entire life, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Annie (McGovern) Shea. Catherine grew up in Woburn, graduating from St. Charles High School with the Class of 1938.

Catherine met Jim Taylor in late thirties and in 1941 they were married. When the War broke out Jim went into the service and Catherine felt she needed to help in some way too. Well, she joined an aircraft engine unit at Raytheon and was a “Rosie the Riveter,” helping to assemble engines until the end of the War.

Their life continued on here in Woburn, where she and Jim raised two daughters to whom they were so devoted. Always taking part in all that they did, Catherine was kept very busy. She had even made time to work with her sister making custom made slip covers.

For over twenty years Catherine was very busy and actively involved with St. Charles Parish Community. There she taught CCD to the first graders, served as a Eucharistic Minister, worked in the Thrift Shop and participated in the organization and successful completion of the annual Christmas Bazaar.

“Grams” was very proud of her grandchildren. Spending time was always time well spent with them. Babysitting, sharing adventures, reading a story or taking walks around the pond, it was very important to all.

Volunteering throughout the city whether at the New England Rehab, Choate Hospital or really any place that needed assistance, Catherine was right there to lend a hand.

Catherine loved her God, family and helping others. All throughout her life she gave of herself in everything that she did, right up to the end of her life.

In addition to her husband Jim who passed away in 1983, Catherine was predeceased by her parents and siblings John, Mary and Domenic Shea.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters and their husbands, Ann

Taylor Blessington, her husband Francis and Marie Chiumiento, her husband John all of Woburn. Loving “Grams” of Geoffrey and Julia Blessington and Michael Chiumiento all of Woburn. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, May 11th at 9:15 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours, Tuesday, May 10th, 4-8p.m. Remembrances may be made in Catherine’s memory to St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
