OBITUARY:

K. Lorraine (Courtney) Langill passed away at her home Monday evening, May 2nd with her loving family by her bedside. The beloved wife of Robert P. “Bob” Langill, she was eighty eight years of age.

Born in Woburn and a lifelong Woburnite, she was one of four children born to the late William and Kathryn (Flaherty) Courtney. Raised and educated here, Lorraine graduated from Woburn High School along with the Class of 1946.

Following high school, Lorraine had secured a position at the Custom House Brokers and notary public in Boston as an administrative assistant. Her daily execution of things she needed to do was exceptional and always tended to the most minute detail. As a result of her exceptional work they had offered her a partnership in the firm.

One evening while up town with her friends, she was introduced to Bob Langill at the infamous “Barney Callahan’s”, the local ice cream shop. Well from there a relationship blossomed and for the last sixty seven years, they journeyed together.

Bringing four children into the world kept Lorraine quite busy at home. Once they all went to school she returned to work joining the Woburn Public School System. She had substituted in the beginning and once the Joyce Middle School was complete, she accepted the position as secretary, where she remained over twenty years.

Over the years the family grew. Grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoyed many, many wonderful times in the town of Casco, Maine. From the time the children were small right up to several years ago it was always the haven for wonderful family gatherings.

Lorraine and her husband also enjoyed travelling throughout the United States and Canada, always taking the opportunity to travel to the Engineering Conferences together.

Lorraine never really left her neighborhood as she lived on the same street where she grew up. Lorraine was very dedicated to her husband and children. She exhibited thoughtfulness and kindness throughout her life and was attentive to all. As described by her children, she was the best Mom in the world.

Sadly, Lorraine was predeceased by her parents. She is lovingly survived by her husband Robert P. “Bob” Langill, her children Robert P. Langill,Jr. and his wife Anne Marie of Billerica, Elayne Davie of OR, Debra Langill of Woburn and Denise Caprio and her late husband Frank of Woburn, her siblings, William T. Courtney, Jr. and his wife Jean of Woburn, James F. Courtney of Woburn and his late wife Loretta Courtney, and Mary (Callahan) Byrne and her late husband Donnie of Woburn. Lorraine is also survived by her seven dear grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held from St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn on Friday, May 6th at 11:15 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours Thursday, May 5th from 4 to 8 P.M at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn.
