John “Jack” Rabbitt, 85, former Mayor of Woburn for 12 years, recently passed away in Florida from complications of surgery.
John was born and raised in Central Falls Rhode Island , and graduated Holy Trinity High School, Boston University and attended NYU graduate school.
John loved sports and was an all state, basketball, baseball and football player in Rhode Island as well as playing softball until he was 82. He would often be seen shooting hoops around the city of Woburn and cheering at all his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved the City of Woburn and remembered very fondly the people who encouraged and helped him through a tough job. He was most proud of helping the citizens of Woburn and keeping taxes down in the city. Upon retirement, he became a contributor to the Woburn Times , writing about events that were important to him, his city and his country. He loved history and visiting historical sites.
We will miss him, his amazing stories of his younger days growing up, his trivia quizzes around the kitchen table, his trips to the ice cream shops, and his always loving encouragement to all.
