OBITUARY:

Eleanor M. “Ellie” (Garrity) Masotta, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away March 2nd, after a brief illness. Eleanor is the beloved wife of Angelo Masotta and had recently celebrated her 93rd birthday.

Born in Woburn, Eleanor was the daughter of the late James and Isabel (Bigelow) Garrity. Raised and educated in Woburn, Eleanor attended Woburn High School until the early forties. Following high school Eleanor began working at the Schraffs Candy Co., in Charlestown.

Ellie and her friends would go to “Barn Dances” in Acton and on one of her visits there, she met “Ang” Masotta. Well, that was truly the beginning of a wonderful life long journey, that covered over seventy years! Remaining in Woburn in the Hammond Square section of the city since 1952, they raised eight wonderful children to whom they have been devoted to.

Ellie’s joy in life was always centered around family. Raising her children, cooking, cleaning, laundry, tending to all of their needs kept Ellie quite busy over the years. Always considered an “old fashioned” Mom, she devoted all of her time, energy and love to all eight children and her dear husband Ang. Family trips throughout the “growing up” years would be to Wymans Beach, North Conway, Benson’s Animal Farm and visits down Maine. In later years they travelled to Lake George, Poland Springs, Maine, and Florida. Each trip was an adventure and travelling with their sisters and brothers added an awful lot of fun.

As the children grew and time became a little more available, Ellie became a veracious reader, enjoying all sorts of genres. Ellie’s abilities in the kitchen were a culinary delight to all! She was an outstanding chef and baker.

Ellie and Ang would have been married seventy years in July. Over those seventy years they have been dedicated to each other, and their children as a group and individually. As their family grew, so did all the love Ellie had in her heart for each of them.

Sadly, Eleanor was predeseased by her parents; her siblings, Richard and George Garrity, Millie Dwyer, Dot Romocki, Sr. Alice Garrity, Helen Mullen and Isabelle Jenkins; and her brother and sister in-laws , Sal, Joseph, Phil, Andy and Johnny Masotta, Mary Ferullo and Stella Pesaturo.

She is lovingly survived by her beloved husband Angelo Paul Masotta; her children, Paul Masotta of Wilmington, Chuck Masotta of Boston, Mike Masotta his wife Debbie, Tom Masotta his wife Ellen, all of Woburn, David Masotta of NH, Ellen Irwin her husband Kenneth of Woburn, Jean Kelley her husband Sterling of Yarmouthport and Mary Garbino her husband Frankie of Woburn; her 17 great and 13 great-grandchildren; her sister in-laws, Susie Giglio her husband Tiny, Grace Castranova, Mary Masotta and Marguerite Masotta all of Woburn; also survived by loving nieces and nephews, great and grand.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Monday, March 7th at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 11.
