OBITUARY:
Madelyn A. (Flynn) Pineau passed away peacefully at the Woburn Nursing Center on Sunday, February 7th. The beloved wife of the late Joseph Joe Pineau she was eighty two years of age.
Born in Boston she was the daughter of John and Margaret Flynn. One of five children she was raised in Boston and a graduate of Notre Dame Academy with the Class of 1950. Madelyn continued her educational persuit at Boston Clerical for two years following high school. Early in the fifties Madelyn was introduced to Joe Pineau, a young man from North Woburn. In 1953 they married and shared sixty one years together, nestled in North Woburn just up until seven months ago when Joe passed away.
Six children kept Madelyn quite busy. Tending to the home, childrens activities, schooling and all that encompasses, their home was always a hub of activity!
Summers were always spent at their home in Belmont, NH, on Lake Winnisquam. It was there that the family would gather, all throughout the years, and that Madelyn taught all of her grandchildren to swim. Madelyn enjoyed big cookouts and parties as much as the quiet times playing cards with Joe on the porch. She loved to knit and made many wonderfully warm hats, mittens, sweaters, and scarfs for the Pineau family and friends. When it came to baking, well no one could ever compare to Madelyn, and anything and everything she baked, it was fabulous!
After the children were grown and left the nest, Madelyn returned to work at St Anthony Parish, as the Secretary. She remained there for twenty years, tending to the needs of the Parish, and volunteered many hours on the side for festivals and church gatherings. Madelyn and Joe loved to travel. Together they visited many places including, Cape Cod, Alaska, and Bermuda. One of Madelyns most beloved trips was taken with her sisters and brothers. The Flynn children traveled together to Ireland to visit family and see the country their ancestors loved so much.
Sadly, Madelyn was predeceased by her parents, husband Joe, infant son, and her daughter Kathleen Gibbons. Madelyn was the devoted mother of Stephen Pineau and his wife Natalie of FL, Diane Malone and her husband Steven of Woburn, Patrick Pineau and his wife Susan of IL, Timothy Pineau and his wife Jean of Woburn, and the dear mother-in-law of Ronald P. Gibbons of Woburn. Dear sister of Carolyn Brady and her husband Edward, Diane Raftery and John Flynn, and Kevin Flynn and his wife Mary. Cherished Nana of Christy Nickerson and her husband Paul, Joseph Pineau and his wife Michelle, Cara Oulton and her husband Tom, Brandon Malone and his wife Catherine, Julie Schell and her husband Rob, Steven Malone, Nicholas, and Dillon Pineau, and Nana Boo of Connor, Aiden, Norah, and Madelyn. Also survived by her lifelong friends Jackie Maguire and Barbara Rafferty. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Friday, February 12th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn at 10. I have so many good memories of times spent at the Pineau home; staying there when my parents went on vacation. I remember one time when I was there for two weeks and there was concern about Kathy and I being together so much for so long…so we had a pillow fight to ease the concerns! I would be there every day after school, and I can still hear Madelyn saying to me,” Sharon get off my counter!” Madelyn was always looking for the best in people. Such a kind and understanding person.
I wish the friends and family peace and blessings for healing during this difficult time. I am picturing Kathy and my son, David, serving food and drinks to Madelyn, Jose, my parents, Uncle Frankie and the other family and friends who have joined our heavenly Father.
Love, Sharon (Walsh) Duke
Madelyn was one of my other moms growing up. I could count on here to keep me in line and not let me stray too far. I spent many good times staying over with the Pineau family. Lots of great memories. I can still hear her saying Sharon, get off my counter!!! Which I never did at my own home, I might add.
Today, although we are sad that Madelyn is not here with us, I am visualizing my son, David, and Kathy waiting on my parents,Madelyn and Joe, my Uncle Frankie and the other neighbors who have moved to live with our heavenly Father. Heaven is celebrating. Sending love and blessings to all family and friends
So sorry, Joe and Michelle, on the loss of your “Nana”. I remember you talking fondly of your grandparents. She is now your guardian angel and will be on your shoulder the rest of your days. Hugs and love to all your family.

“Madie” was how I first met her in 1959, arriving in Woburn with Jim, knowing no one. She was my first friend and remained so all thru the yrs.
My prayers and thoughts are with you all. She is now with Joe and Cathy looking down on her wonderful family. I will miss you Madie.
To the Pineau, Malone and Gibbons Family our heartfelt condolences to you all. As difficult as it is to loose Auntie Madelyn, she’s in a better place, back with Uncle Joe, Kathy and the rest of the clan that has gone before us. She will be missed.
