JOSEPH F. “JOE” LAPORTA – in Bourne, formerly of Medford, January 19th. Beloved husband of RoseMary (DeFrancesco) LaPorta of Bourne. Devoted father of Lynda D. Murray Harding and husband Richard T. of Humarock, Carla Ann Ferraguto and husband James P. of Onset. Loving brother of Carmen LaPorta and wife Joan of Arlington, brother in law of Marie LaPorta and her late husband Francis of Newton. Dear grandfather of Francis H. Murray IV and his late significant other Aimee Christian of Woburn, Diana M. Nobrega of Burlington, Tara Ann Murray of Woburn, Colette Ann Burl and husband Christopher of Rowley, James P. Ferraguto Jr. of Onset, and great-grandfather of Christopher Murray, Jordyn and Kailyn Nobrega, Ava and Carolina Burl, Jacob Zompanti and Tracy A. Murray. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, Tuesday, January 26th at 12:00 p.m. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the Service. Remembrances may be made in Joe’s memory to the Medford High Scholarship Fund,489 Winthrop Street, Medford, MA 02155.

OBITUARY:

Joseph F. “Joe” LaPorta, a life long resident of Medford passed away at the Falmouth Hospital after a brief illness. The beloved husband of RoseMary (DeFrancesco) LaPorta he was ninety one years of age.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Santina (Bonfiglio) LaPorta. Raised and educated in Medford Joe was a proud graduate of Medford along with the Class of 1942.

Joe began his professional career at Medford High School. A long time administrator of Medford High School, he served as part of the Drivers Educational Program, Joe was always actively involved in the school and all of its activities. For many years he served as the Union Representative on the Negotiating Team. In later years he had become the Head of Security for the high school.

After his retirement he and RoseMary would spend their winters in Florida. There he made a host of friends, and also met up with fellow Medforidites. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves and winter would never be complete without family coming to join in the fun.

Being active throughout the years in Medford, Joe had served as Past President of the Kiwanis Club, where he had served as a key member and figure, in many of all the different programs they put on, particularly “Jail Day”. Political campaigns over the years were also an area that Joe was an intricate part of in the community.

Joe’s family meant the world to him. Time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren growing up was always full of fun and adventure! Family gatherings were always a special time and Joe often would entertain them all with his harmonica and guitar, both of which he was very good at!

He spent the last few years at the Cape, surrounded by family. Joe lived a life where he was always watching out for family and friends. Faith, love, family and community always present.

Sadly, in addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother Francis LaPorta and his grandsons significant other Aimee Christian.

He is lovingly survived by his dear wife, RoseMary (DeFrancesco) LaPorta of Bourne; his children, Lynda D. Murray Harding and husband Richard T. of Humarock, Carla Ann Ferraguto and husband James P. of Onset; his sister, Carmen LaPorta and wife Joan of Arlington; his sister inlaw, Marie LaPorta of Newton; his grandchildren, Francis H. Murray IV of Woburn, Diana M. Nobrega of Burlington, Tara Ann Murray of Woburn, Colette Ann Burl and husband Christopher of Rowley, James P. Ferraguto Jr. of Onset; and his great grandchildren, Christopher Murray, Jordyn and Kailyn Nobrega, Ava and Carolina Burl, Jacob Zompanti and Tracy A. Murray.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, Tuesday, January 26th at 12:00 p.m. Interment is private.
