Antonette L. “Netta” (Chiumiento) Pandolph, R.N. passed away December 18th at the Winchester Nursing Center. Beloved wife of the late Francis J. Pandolph she was ninety years of age.

Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Mary (Iuliano) Chiumiento. Raised and educated in Woburn, Netta was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 1943.

Following high school, she joined the United States Nurses Cadet Corps. This was a division of the military service preparing nurses for duty during World War II. Boston City Hospitals, Choate Memorial Hospital and the Warren Academy School were all affiliations of this program. Upon graduating in 1947, Netta received her Registered Nurse certification and was in further pursuit of more knowledge in the area of medicine.

Netta then sought out the University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Operating Room Management and Techniques.

Netta returned to her hometown of Woburn and secured herself a position at the Charles Choate Memorial Hospital. For over thirty years prior to the closing of the Choate, Netta was the Chief Operating Room manager and coordinator. Following her shifts at the hospital Netta would then go and help her parent’s out at their restaurant, “Mary and Bernies.” She and her brother Phil would dorn their aprons, taking customers orders and cleaning up.

Netta remained active for many years in the Association of Operating Nurse and Surgical Technicians. She was impassioned with her interest in teaching the nurses, technicians and medical students in the fine skill of operating room procedures and sterilization techniques.

Netta and her husband loved to travel and they toured extensively throughout the United States, Italy, France, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Switzerland, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Canada, Asia and Mexico. While visiting these different countries, she would make every effort to visit operating rooms. Actually while visiting China she visited and Acupuncture Clinic, a medical opium den, and she observed a heart transplant in Texas.

Netta also enjoyed her many years spent with family and friends both in North Hampton Beach in NH during the summer months and Hollywood, Florida during the cold winter months; at which time Bridge was always the game of choice!

Netta was a past member of the Choate Nurses Alumni, Mother Cabrini Nurses Guild and Sons of Italy, Ladies Lodge # 1584.
