OBITUARY:

Ellen E. (Wark) Walsh passed away Tuesday, November twenty-fourth at the Francis Street Nursing Center. The beloved wife of the late John J. Walsh, Sr., she was eighty one years of age.

Born in Dorchester, she was one of five children born the late Robert and Ellen (Farren) Wark. Raised and educated there, she was a graduate of All Girls High School with the Class of 1952.

In 1959 she married her long time sweetheart John Walsh. After they married they moved to Melrose for a brief time time and then to Woburn’s South End where they remained for close to a half century. There they raised their five children and were very dedicated and actively involved in all their scholastic and sporting events.

Upon Ellen’s retirement, John and Ellen purchased a home in South Yarmouth, where they lived for ten years. One of Ellen and Johns greatest enjoyments was taking a nightly ride to the beach to watch the boats come back in. Family and friends were always welcome here, it was an open door policy. They also thoroughly enjoyed going to Seafood Sams.

Ellen had also worked as a bookkeeper for several local shops here in Woburn and Winchester. She was also very active around her home always tending to the gardens outside with perennials and annuals, in an array of beautiful colors. Ellen loved to paint! So when she decided it was time to change colors of rooms in her home, or even her home itself, she did so!

In later years she worked part-time in the Senior Center, down the Cape helping out wherever she could, along with taking an active role in learning from a lot of the different classes there including a quilting class.

Ellen’s grandchildren were her world, she took great pride in knitting a special sweater for each and every one. Spending time with them at all of the different activities and times throughout the years were always cherished times tucked away in their hearts.

Faith, family and love were three key ingredients in the Walsh household. They remained devoted to their Church, to each other and always surrounded with love.

In addition to her parents Ellen was also pre deceased by her husband of fifty two years, John along with her siblings and their spouses Gertrude Dandurand and her husband Robert, George Wark, Mary Heim and her husband William and Robert D. Wark and his wife Anne.

She is lovingly survived by her children,George F. Walsh and his wife Donna of OH, Rita E. Nye and her husband David, John J. Walsh Jr, Thomas F. Walsh and Robert D. Walsh all of Woburn, along with her dear grandchildren Patrick Walsh, Ashley Nye, Margaret Walsh and Christopher Walsh. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Saturday, December 5th , at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10.
