OBITUARY:

Josephine M. (Callahan) Anderson, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully at the Arnold House in Stoneham. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl A. Anderson Jr.

Josephine was born in Quincy, the daughter of the late Matthew, Sr. and Margaret (Hogan) Callahan. She grew up in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School. Following graduation, Josephine met her dear husband Carl in downtown Boston. They agreed to go on a date and attended a dance at the YMCA, which was just the beginning of a long loving relationship. They Josephine and Carl married in 1953 and lived in Allston for a time before moving to Woburn. They settled on the West Side in 1957 where they would raise their family. They brought two wonderful children into the world that brought so much joy into their lives. Family was truly at the center of Josephine’s life. Her house was always the destination for family holidays, parties and gatherings. Hosting family and friends was just one of the ways that she could show her love of cooking.

Many long weekends and vacations were spent at the family summer home in Barnstable. Many great and cherished memories were made there. Everyone always looked forward to the trip. The house was proudly built on land owned by the family since the 1930s. As the family grew and years passed Josephine and her husband enjoyed traveling to destinations throughout the Caribbean. They took many cruises and thoroughly enjoyed splitting their time between North Fort Meyers and Woburn. Josephine’s outgoing and friendly nature made her a friend to all that she met. Truly a wonderful woman and mother in every sense of the word. Josephine will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was sadly predeceased by her beloved husband Carl A. Anderson Jr., and her brothers, Matthew Callahan, Jr. and Gerald Callahan.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Carol A. Phalon of Corpus Christi, Texas and Paul R. Anderson of Woburn; her grandchildren, John, Christine, and Brian Phalon and Jason and Jonathan Anderson and great-grandson Aiden Anderson; her sister Catherine (Callahan) Stoddard-Pascarelli of Braintree and Margaret Callahan of Quincy.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, October 28th at 1 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. A calling hour will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the Service.
