OBITUARY:

Theresa M. Donovan passed away Thursday, October 22nd at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester. The beloved daughter of the late Jeremiah and Nora M. (Sweeney) Donovan, she was ninety years of age.

Born and raised in Woburn, Terry, as she was affectionately known, was one of two daughters. She attended Woburn schools, graduating from Woburn High School with the Class of 1943. Following high school, Terry attended Burdette College, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Business.

After graduation, Terry held a number of jobs throughout her many years of work. She began working at the Woburn National Bank where she remained for twenty-three years. Following the bank Terry worked as an assistant for two local doctor’s and then she went on to Honeywell as an Administrative Assistant and Technical Writer. While working, Terry was a State President as well as National Treasurer for the BPW, the Business and Professional Womens Association. Terry entered the “retirement world” in 1987.

A very active woman, retirement did not slow her down in the least. For several years Terry substituted as a Secretary in the Woburn Public Schools. Terry wore many different hats while working at the Senior Center: served on the Council on Aging Board for the past fifteen years, the Transportation Committee, the Senior Newsletter, and was a member of the Senior Tax Work Program at Woburn City Hall. You could often find Terry assisting with many of the major events and activities at the Senior Center such as the annual Holiday Fair, trips, speakers, card games, hand and foot games, bingo and any other “happening” there! Believe it or not Terry even found the time to volunteer at the Kennedy and Joyce Middle School Libraries. Terry loved to read, travel and spending many, many happy summers at Rye Beach in New Hampshire. Some favorite destinations over the years were Branson, Missouri, Myrtle Beach, casinos in CT and NJ, Bermuda, and Florida to name a few!

Terry was a woman full of energy, compassion and kindness. She not only lived HER life but she was always concerned for and about everyone else. Terry lived her life to the fullest enjoying every second of every day and never missed a beat. She will be missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Terry was predeceased by her brother-in-law, John Matthews.

She is lovingly survived by her sister, Rita C. Matthews of NH; her niece, Cathy M. Dudak of NH; her great-nephews, Christopher Dudak of Wayland, Adam Dudak of WA; and her great-niece, Stephanie Dudak of NH.

  1. Sorry to hear about Terry, we worked together many years ago at the Woburn National Bank. She was always very helpful and kind. I’m sure she will be missed by her family and friends.
