OBITUARY:

Florence R. (Rice) Muraco passed away Friday evening, August 28th, at her home at New Horizons in Woburn. The beloved wife of the late Gasper F. “Rugged” Muraco, she was ninety years of age.

Born and raised in Douglas, Arizona, “Becky,” as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of the late Jesse and Pearl (Shelley) Rice. She attended school in her small hometown and graduated in 1942.

After high school, Becky met the love of her life, Gasper. The two met in Arizona while he was in the service, they married, and moved back to Winchester to live with his family. They made their home in Winchester and brought three wonderful children into the world whom they adored. As a family, they enjoyed going to the Cape every summer and always head out on “adventures” to the South and Midwest to visit Becky’s relatives. In 1961, Becky became an LPN at Winchester Hospital, a job she loved and remained at for fourteen years. As her family grew, Becky was delighted at becoming “Gram” to her six grandchildren, and later, six great-grandchildren.

After she and her husband retired, planes, trains and automobiles came into play! Becky and Gasper travelled all over the Caribbean, Las Vegas, Alaska, Hawaii, and throughout Europe as well. Always a “heart” favorite destination though, was Becky’s beloved home state of Arizona. She loved going back to her roots and visiting her family and friends. Becky also never missed a chance to go to Foxwoods and have some fun!

Becky was an active member of the Woman’s Chapter of the Sons of Italy and was very active in the DAV, Chapter 88, where she helped her husband with many functions.

For the past ten years, Becky made her home at New Horizons in Woburn, where during that time she made and shared many good and very happy memories with even better friends! She thoroughly enjoyed her living arrangements there.

An outgoing woman with a great sense of humor, Becky was a fun and true friend to all. She will be missed.

In addition to her husband, Becky was predeceased by her husband, Gasper F. “Rugged” Muraco, and her daughter, Ann Marie Govostes.

She is lovingly survived by her son, George P. Muraco and his wife Irene of AZ; her daughter, Patricia L. Lewko and her husband John of Billerica; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Michael Govostes, David Muraco and his wife Melissa, Mark Muraco and his wife Jesslyn, and Andrea Mitchell and her husband Adrian; six great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, September 2nd at 10 a.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Becky’s memory to the Francis J. Muraco Elementary School, 33 Bates Road, Winchester, MA 01890.
