OBITUARY:

Anna J. (Burnham) Bowen passed away Tuesday, August 26th at the Florence Center for Living in Chelsea. The beloved wife of the late Walter W. Bowen, she was ninety one years of age.

Born in Everett, she was one of seven children born to the late Horace and Frances (Dawson) Burnham. Raised and educated in Everett, Anna was a graduate of Everett High School with the Class of 1942.

While working at a neighborhood drug store, Anna was introduced to a handsome young gentleman named Walter. Once introduced they dated for a bit, married and brought two very dedicated and loving children into the world. They made their home in Chelsea, where they raised and educated their children. Anna was always active in the academic and sporting activities of her children.

Family was her life! Anna was ever present to family and friends. She delighted in being “Gamma” to her grandchildren. Sharing in all of their activities and celebrating in all of their accomplishments, she took great pride!

A truly feisty woman, she shared her life in so many ways with her amazing personality, honesty, sincerity and very empathetic nature. Anna loved being with family and friends. Whether it was on the dance floor at a wedding, celebrating an anniversary or birthday, a Red Sox game, Patriots or at the annual family outing in Essex, there was nothing better in life than sharing it with family and friends!

In addition to her parents, Anna was sadly predeceased by her husband Walter W. Bowen and her siblings, Helen Pellegrini, Marie Pompeo, Alice Vidito, Frederick, Edward, and George Burnham.

She is lovingly survived by her children; Dennis W. Bowen, Ret. RFD and his wife Ann Marie of Revere and Carol A. Kenney and her husband Joseph M. of Woburn; her grandchildren, Jennifer Rigali and her husband Matt of CA and Gregg Bowen, Revere Firefighter RFD and his wife Stefanie of Revere; and her great grandchildren Jack and Ben Rigali and Zachary Bowen.

A Funeral will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Monday, August 31st at 11 a.m. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Anna’s memory to the Leonard Florence Center, 165 Captain’s Row, Chelsea, MA 02150.

  1. Carol I always wondered what happened to your MOM when I did not see her for a long time at stop and shop. Just read the Chelsea Record and saw her Beautiful face. You guys were blessed with her long life and a GREAT MOM. Sorry for this loss. Cathy

  2. Carol,

I was so sorry to hear about your Mother. I am so happy that I had the pleasure of meeting her and enjoying a nice lunch at The Continental. She was a lot of fun just like her daughter.

    Best regards,
    Bernie McDonald
