OBITUARY:

Francis X. “Frank” Bees, Jr., a resident of Woburn, passed away peacefully at the Winchester Hospital on Sunday, July 12th. The beloved husband of Marcia A. (Bowman) Bees, he was seventy-seven years of age.

Born in Syracuse, NY, Frank was one of four children of the late Francis X. and Bernadine (DeMore) Bees. Frank lived for a time in Richmond, VA before moving to Winchester. He was a graduate of Winchester High School with the Class of 1955, then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Always a diligent worker, he worked predominantly as a salesman for Norton Abrasives, retiring at the age of sixty-two.

Frank met a lovely young lady from Arlington, Marcia Bowman, at Butrick’s Ice Cream, there in Arlington. They later married in October of 1960 and brought four wonderful daughters into the world. They lived for a short time in Medford before ultimately moving to the west side of Woburn, where they still reside. The family enjoyed many happy vacations every summer in Wells, ME, family, new friends and old enjoying the lazy, hazy days of summer. Many nights were spent laughing and cooking out in the backyard. Though sometimes quiet, Frank had a great sense of humor and always liked to tease his friends and family.

Frank was a true craftsman; he enjoyed woodworking and watching his projects come to life. He fabricated chairs, picnic tables, and model boats. After attending a boat building school in Hampton, he took great pride in launching his own boat, last year, the “Buzzoff”, which was five years in the making! It was a truly a great moment to see all of his time and handwork come together right here at Horn Pond.

More than anything, Frank cherished his family and the time he enjoyed with them. He would do anything for anyone. A true gentleman, he could be depended upon by all.

In addition to his parents, Frank was sadly predeceased by his sister, Ann Hallahan, and his sister-in-law, Judy Bees.

He is lovingly survived by his wife Marcia; his daughters, Michelle A. Bees and her husband William Mayfarth of NJ, Mary Ellen Aylward and her husband Raymond of GA, Deidre A. Gillette and her husband Richard, and Jane E. Ventresca and her husband Michael, all of Woburn; his siblings, Bonnie D. Atzl and her husband Josef of Belmont and John Bees and his wife Sue of Beverly; his in-laws, Frederick Hallahan and his wife Jan of MD, Richard Bowman and his wife Lois of CA, Alfred Bowman and his wife Pat of TX, and Barbara Yanity and her husband Gene of PA; his grandchildren, Brittany, Alex, Nicholas, Philip, Samuel, and Kelli; and his great-grandchildren, Leila and Kiera; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Saturday, July 18th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. 1. Marcia,

Polly and I are sorry to hear of Frank’s passing. He and I had some fun moments together in high school and later when we hooked up while in the Marine Corps. He and I went through Parris Island together and served in the same platoon. He was a good Marine, I can attest to that.
I wish you well and to Frannie, as I knew him, I offer him a “Semper
Fidelis…always faithful. Thank you for your service.”
