OBITUARY:

Winifred R. “Winnie” Kearns passed away Monday evening, March 3rd at the Blueberry Hill Center in Beverly. The beloved daughter of the late Michael J. and Anne M. (McNulty) Kearns, she was ninety years of age.

Born in Woburn, she has been a life long resident. Raised and educated here, she was a graduate of Woburn High, Class of 1941. Following High School she began working at McCord Wynn in Winchester. Winnie worked” on the line” there and as the men began returning from World War II most of the women were let go, except Winnie. Her dedication and being a highly motivated worker, was noted even then, and she remained there for over the next forty some odd years. At the time of her retirement in 1987, she had become the Administrative Assistant in the office, in charge of payroll.

Winnie remained completely devoted to her family, caring for her mother over the years, she had always remained in the homestead. Winnie loved being with her sisters and brothers and kept a special relationship with her twin brother William who sadly just passed away a year ago. They celebrated all of the holidays together and when it came to travelling, Winnie was always ready and available. Her travels took her all over Europe and two of her favorites were Ireland and Switzerland. In later years after her retirement, she had gone to Florida for the winter for several years.

Winnie was always happiest when she was in her home. She had taken courses through the evening program at Woburn High School, where she learned how to refinish furniture and sew. Needless to say she restored and refinished many different pieces of furniture over the years and was able to sew herself some wonderful outfits.

Never one to be the center of attention, Winnie always was most comfortable surrounded by family. All throughout the years when the nieces and nephews began arriving “Winnie” enjoyed celebrating in all of their personal and professional accomplishments. She shared a very special relationship with all seventeen nieces and nephews on an individual basis, making them all feel so very special to her.

A very faith filled woman she was a weekly communicant and parish member of St. Charles Church. Winnie’s very kind, gentle, self less spirit, was truly a gift that she gave to others unselfishly.

In addition to her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her brother, William Kearns and his wife Hazel, and her sisters, Anne Conley and her husband Walter, and Mary Kearns.

She is lovingly survived by her siblings, Eleanor Flathers and her husband Neil of Hingham, Thomas Kearns and his wife Joan of Hingham, Margaret Cullinane and her husband Charles of Reading, her nieces and nephews, Elaine Pierce, Charles Cullinane, Janice Schnabel, Barbara Kearns, Jean Ricketts, Jean Tripoli, David Kearns, Mary Woods, Robert Cullinane, Julie Kearns, Susan Kearns, Owen Kearns, Karen Doyle, and Joanne O’Keefe, and grand-aunt of twenty-two grand-nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Saturday, March 8th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Winnie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
