OBITUARY:

Tracey L. Nix, a native of Woburn who had made his home in Wilmington for the past twenty-three years, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, August 9th. The beloved husband of Sonia (Hernandez) Nix, he was eighty years of age.

Born in Kingfield, Maine, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Geneva (Safford) Nix. He was raised in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1949. A proud veteran of the Korean War, he entered the US Navy in 1950 and served four years, aboard the USS Toledo and the USS Manchester.

He was first married to the late Veronica J. (Keough) Nix, and together they raised two children, Gayle and Karen. Sadly, Veronica passed away at a young age. Later on he was fortunate enough to meet Sonia Hernandez at a wedding, and they have since shared thirty-one wonderful years of marriage, raising two children, John and Stephanie.

Mr. Nix was a self-employed carpenter and retired in 1994. He loved working on do-it-yourself projects around his home and landscaping his yard. He enjoyed fishing and was a history buff who was especially fascinated with stories and accounts of the World Wars.

Surviving, along with his wife Sonia, are four children: Gayle Oulighan and her husband Michael of Carlisle, Karen Nix of Lowell, and John and Stephanie Nix, both of Wilmington; and two sisters, Doris Dizer of Melbourne, Florida, and Shirley Kenney of Billerica. He was also the cherished grandfather of Jason, Rachael, Lawrence, Steven, and Melanie, and great-grandfather of Liam.

A memorial service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, August 15th at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., prior to the service. Interment of his ashes will follow at Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem Street, Woburn.

  1. Karen, my sympathies to you, and all your dad’s family. As you all come together to celebrate his life, may love and fond memories ease your sadness.
Peace be with his soul. I wish i had gotten to meet him, to think we lived in Wilmington, at the same time, and never knew of the relationship.
    Sincerely,
    your cousin in genealogy,
    Priscilla Nix Caren
