OBITUARY:

Frank P. Mallahan of Dorchester, a native of Woburn, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, February 7th. The beloved son of Dorothy M. (Traisi) Mallahan of Dracut and the late Francis J. Mallahan, he was fifty-four years of age.

Born in Somerville, he grew up on Henderson Road on Woburn’s West Side and attended Woburn schools, graduating from Woburn High School with the Class of 1976. He joined the Air Force in 1977 and served proudly for four years, stationed in South Carolina. He loved working with computers and was employed as a Customer Support Manager for Sonos in Cambridge, a manufacturer of digital music systems.

A happy-go-lucky “teddy bear” of a man, Frank had a great sense of humor and a generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer advice. He was a wonderful son, brother, and friend who was rarely without a smile on his face or a joke to share.

Along with his father, Francis J. Mallahan, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Mondi.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, Dorothy Mallahan of Dracut, are three sisters: Debbie Belcastro and her husband Jay of Dracut, Patty Lynch and her husband Jim of Caledonia, Michigan, and Sr. Mary Theresa, OSC, of Andover, a brother, Dan Mallahan and his wife Robin of Dracut, and his brother-in-law, Tony Mondi of Wilmington. He also leaves his devoted friend, Lainey Silva of Dorchester, and was the loving uncle of Melissa, Andrew, Traci, John, Emily, Patrick, Danny, Mary, Sarah, Matthew, Adam and David.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, February 13th, at 10:45 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 11:30. Interment will take place in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Monastery of St. Clare, 445 River Road, Andover, MA 01810-4213.

  1. To the Family of Frank:

I am his friend Debra I just found out this evening of Frank’s passing. Needless to say like many I am in total shock. What can I say that you dont already know. He was an angel among us. 2. To the Mallahan Family and All of Frankie’s Friends,

Frankie was one of my best lifelong friends. I have so many fond memories of Frankie and his wonderful family. He was always a kind, gentle and loving person – and his family was the same. Reflecting back on our childhood, we were indeed fortunate to grow up during a special time, when the world was still innocent. Frankie made this gift even more special. We stayed in touch over the years, and attended our 20th High School reunion together. Frankie always made sure to keep me up to date on the events of Woburn and our neighborhood, no matter where I was in the world. He was indeed a very special soul, and we were all blessed to know him. He will stay in my heart forever. I will miss you my friend.

    Love To All,

Totally unexpected news. I am saddened at Frank’s passing. We had so many good times back in the day. CB radio introduced us and boy did the group have fun and memories. I’m glad he called recently and we had chance to catch up a little. Though we hadn’t seen each other for too many years, he was dedicated in calling and keeping in touch. You will be missed old friend. My heart and prayers go out to your family.
    Until we meet again.

  4. Dear Frankie (as you’ll always be to me),

I am so sad to hear of your untimely passing and wish I could spend time with your family and friends during the celebration of your life. You were my first best friend and we learned about so much together during our young lives. We caught our first frogs together and hiked to countless places that young boys would. And you are still the only person I know that considers a spoonful of mustard to be a snack! The world that you left behind now has a void that only you could fill. My condolences to Mrs. Mallahan and the rest of your family…we haven’t seen each other for years but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Go with God my friend, Mark Tedesco

So sorry to hear of Frank’s passing. I am a former projectionist at Copley Place Cinema. Also a Dorchester neighbor. Memories of Frank include his interest in my Corvair, holiday parties at his place, an always warm and sometimes dramatic hello when getting to work at the theatre.
Most memorable is Frank,s loyalty and loving support when my husband passed away in 2004.
My thoughts are with Frank,s family and Lainie.

  6. To the Mallahan Family and friends,

I am deeply sorry to hear of Sweet Frank’s passing. He was such a special light and I am so blessed to have had him in my life. I am certain he, Alan and Perry are having a grand time. Heaven will never be the same…so very much better.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Take care,

A man that knew much, wisdom filled his presence where ever he went. Frank helped others whenever possible.
He was a friend to me beyond understanding. It was feeling. He was a feeling that could not be ignored. A powerful prism that made all feel at home even when away from “where the heart is.”
I’ll see you on the “other side.” I know that there is more there than here, I hope too, that I may make it to the place in which you rest & continue on with a song sung in many different tones just like the selections he had with music and movies. there is no 1 thing that holds Frank to anything other than LOVE.
GOD BLESS YOU & I hope that God sends us all a sign as decent as yours; this is a poem for you to understand not the others that may read such. I will hold it down the best that I know how….
I will take photos with you in mind to bring out the best in what God has given me & you always believed to be one of the BEST BODIES IN THE GAME… R.I.P. ::: A.M.E.N.!!!!

    Dear Frank,
I’ll never forget the day we first met in Mr. G’s chem class. We were lab partners and fast friends from that day forward. I’ll never forget all of our adventures in the green hornet to Zion Hill. And blasting from your PA system as we raced through the fancy neighborhoods in Winchester. I can’t forget the turntable you made for me from junk parts in Mr. O’s physics lab and all the tunes we sang to, especially “back when our hair was short.” Treasured memories, all.
Your loved ones are legion, and we may take comfort in the knowledge that your loyalty never wavered.
    Happy trails, my devoted friend.
    Until we meet again…
    All my love,
    Phyll

  11. Frank,
You were one in a million. I can’t tell you how grateful i am for having known you. You taught me so much. Doesn’t matter if it was about computers or music. You were one of the kindest and most thoughtful people i have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will never forget your sense of humor, your ability to listen and give amazing advice as well as the amazing amount of random nonsense you were an expert on. I thank you for being a great friend.
