OBITUARY:

Raymonde “Renee” Zarrella, a longtime resident of Woburn’s West Side, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday morning, February 1st. The beloved wife of Anthony J. Zarrella for over sixty-five years, she was eighty-five years of age.

Renee was born in France, daughter of the late Jules and Adrienne Guenet. She was raised and educated there and, during World War II, met a young American soldier by the name of Anthony Zarrella. They married in France and returned to the United States, taking up residence in Somerville. In 1960 they moved to Woburn’s West Side, where they remained.

Renee was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and “Grandma.” She was a terrific cook and loved having everyone at her house for special occasions. She had a green thumb and could often be found tending her flower and vegetable gardens. In earlier years she was in several bowling leagues in Woburn and Burlington, both candlepin and ten-pin bowling, bringing home many trophies.

Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and throughout her life she had a special affinity for St. Therese of Lisieux, “the Little Flower.”

Renee was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters, all of France.

Surviving, along with her husband Anthony, are five children: Robert and his wife Debbie of Billerica, Anne Brown and her husband Tom of Methuen, Mary O’Brien and her husband Eugene of Tewksbury, John and his wife Joanne of Florida, and Michael of Wilmington. She was the dear sister of Marcelle LaGant and her husband André of France, and the loving grandmother of 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, on Saturday, February 4th at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

There are no calling hours.

Donations may be made in Renee’s memory to the Society of the Little Flower, 1313 Frontage Road, Darien, IL 60561.

Arrangements are being handled by the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn.
