OBITUARY:

Cynthia Ann Murphy, a lifelong resident of Woburn’s South End, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, May 28th, following a lengthy illness. The beloved daughter of the late William H. and Marion E. (Cavanaugh) Murphy, Jr., she was fifty-seven years of age.

Cynthia was born and raised in Woburn and graduated from St. Charles High School with the Class of 1972. In her early years she worked at the Choate Hospital in Woburn, Servomation in Stoneham, the Woburn Public Library, and the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Malden. In 1978 she found her career with the U.S. Postal Service, where she was a supervisor until her retirement due to ill health in 2003. She loved her position there and enjoyed a great rapport with her co-workers. Her dedication and outstanding performance were rewarded with several commendations and awards.

Cynthia’s life was devoted to her family. She lovingly cared for her parents, particularly in their declining years, and was a favorite aunt to her nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, attending as many of their recitals, sporting and academic events as possible. In recent years, Cynthia was confined to her home and enjoyed handicrafts, making lovely gifts for family and friends. She was especially appreciative of all those who cared for her, including home health aides and the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff at both the Lahey Clinic and Winchester Hospital who, due to her frequent visits, came to be her friends.

Surviving are three sisters, Elaine M. Olenchak and her husband Stephen of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Susan F. McManus and her husband Ronald and Claire M. Sanborn and her husband Mark, all of Woburn, two brothers, William H. Murphy III and his wife Sandra and Paul A. Murphy, all of Woburn. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, June 1st, at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
