JOHN M.”HENNA” HENEHAN, SR – Thursday, April 21st. Beloved husband of Esther A. (Girardi) Henehan. Loving father of Theresa M. “Terry” Monyak and her husband Michael of New Hartford, CT, John J. Henehan, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Andover, and Colleen M. Henehan and her partner Peter A. Hersee, Jr. of Winchester. Dear brother of Patricia Brown of NM, Paul Henehan of Saugus, and the late Dorothy Wise. Cherished grandfather of Corinne and Miranda Monyak, Ava and Brooke Henehan, Cody, Kaela, and Derek Hersee. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, April 26th at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Calling hours are on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Mr. Henehan’s memory to St. Charles School, 8 Myrtle Street, Woburn, MA 01801.

OBITUARY:

John M. “Henna” Henehan Sr., lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away Thursday, April 21st, at Winchester Hospital after a brief illness. The beloved husband of Esther A. (Girardi) Henehan, he was seventy-three years of age. John was the son of the late William and Anna (Gallagher) Henehan. Raised in Woburn along with his three siblings, “Gumpa” as he was known by his classmates, was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 1956. In December of the same year, he entered the United States Air Force where he proudly served during the Vietnam War.

John met the woman he was to marry, Esther Girardi, through a relative while at Horn Pond. After a five year courtship, they were wed in September of 1961. They made their home in Woburn where they raised three lovely children. As a family they enjoyed vacationing at Hampton Beach and more recently Cape Cod. John and his family loved playing cards, especially Hearts, Cribbage and Whist. He also spent time at his computer. He also coached Ice Hockey, the Midget AA traveling team.

Known for his strong will and dependable personality, John was a fun loving, caring and proud family man.

John worked in the area of data processing and was employed for a time at Woburn High School. In later years, he was a crossing guard for the Woburn Schools. His assignment for the last three years was St. Charles Elementary where he was a much loved addition. Each day John greeted the students, parents, and passersby with a friendly greeting and a warm smile. His presence will be missed.

John was predeceased by his parents, William and Anna ( Gallagher) Henehan and his sister, Dorothy Wise.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Esther A. (Girardi) Henehan, his children, Theresa M. “Terry” Monyak and her husband Michael of New Hartford, CT, John J. Henehan, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Andover, and Colleen M. Henehan and her partner Peter A. Hersee, Jr. of Winchester, his siblings, Patricia Brown of NM, and Paul Henehan of Saugus, and his cherished grandchildren, Corinne and Miranda Monyak, Ava and Brooke Henehan, and Cody, Kaela, and Derek Hersee. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.     Esther, John, Terry and Colleen,
    I was so sad when I heard the news about Hennah. I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will all miss him so much. Your memories will keep him close to your heart. I remember Hennah when he worked at the high school…he was a good friend, and he will be missed. I am keeping you all in my thoughts, and am so sorry I did not find out about the services until now.
