Annette M. Riley, 97, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 5th, at Winchester Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold R. Riley, who died ten years ago.
Born and raised in Woburn, Annette was one of eleven children of the late Zopito and Giacinta (Carpenate) DiPanfilo. She was a graduate of Woburn High School and in early years worked at her father’s restaurant, Roman Gardens, in Woburn’s South End. She was later employed as a bookkeeper in Boston. For many years she was active in real estate and worked with her brothers and sister in the family business, Frank P. DiPanfilo Real Estate.
She and her husband Harold were married in 1940. Although they had no children of their own, Annette and Harold were devoted to their many nieces and nephews and their families, always taking part in family gatherings and visiting back and forth with her brothers and sisters. Annette loved life and was very active. She practiced yoga at the Jenks Center in Winchester, where she made many friends. She learned to swim at the age of 70, and at 97 she was still driving. In late August she traveled to Colorado to attend the wedding of her grandniece, Jo DiPanfilo Gower.
Preceding her in death, along with her husband of sixty years, Harold, were two brothers, Frank and Charles DiPanfilo, and a sister, Ellen Murphy.
She will be missed by all who loved her, and fondly remembered by her brothers, Joseph and his wife Anna, James and his wife Kay, and Anthony, all of Woburn, and her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday, October 9th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
