OBITUARY:

Severio J. Restivo, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away early Friday, May 21st at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a lengthy illness. “Seva,” as he was affectionately known, died on the 60th anniversary of marriage to his beloved wife, Rosemary. He was eighty-three years of age.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Cataldo and Phyllis (Urano) Restivo. A 1944 graduate of Woburn High School, he lived in the South End of Woburn all his life. A proud veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the Coast Guard following his graduation. In his younger years he was an excellent baseball player, continuing to play in a men’s league after the war.

Throughout his life he worked along with his brother “Sammy” in the grocery business. Severio served as store manager for Sammy’s, which originated as Winn Street Superette, a deli and grocery located in Burlington near the Woburn line. He retired twenty years ago and enjoyed traveling with his wife to Florida, California, and his favorite destination, Las Vegas. He was an avid sports fan and particularly loved horse racing.

Devoted to his family, Severio enjoyed spending time with his daughters and their husbands, and was a proud “Grandpa” to his three grandchildren. He maintained a close relationship with his siblings and their families throughout his life.

Preceding him in death were three sisters: Veronica Restivo, who died earlier this year, Frances Chiumiento, and Rose Marie Lemone.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Rosemary (Senesi) Restivo, three daughters: Rosemary Wybert and her husband Ron of Stoneham, Phyllis Dillon and her husband William of Millis, and Jane Grant and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, a sister, Ann LaDelfe and her husband Angelo of Woburn, and a brother, Samuel J. “Sammy” Restivo and his wife Ann of Burlington. He was the brother-in-law of John “Anthony” Chiumiento and Louis Lemone, and cherished “Grandpa” of Jean Dillon of Medfield, Danny Dillon of Millis, and Bobby Grant of Tewksbury. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, May 25th at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem Street, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

  3. Hello Rosemary and Phyllis,

It’s been well over thirty years since we’ve seen one another, but we attended North Shore Community College in the early 1970s. You knew me as “E.J.”, the backup goalie when you were both cheerleaders.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your father.

  4. Dearest Uncle –

You were the very best. Always there for Aunt Rose and your family. You were always so very proud – and appropriately so – of Phyllis, Rosemary, and Janie and of their wonderful husbands, Bill, Ron, and Bob and of your precious grandchildren, Jean, Danny, and Bobby. We are so sad and we will miss you so very much but we are happy that you are in the arms of our loving Lord and Savior.

    Love, your nephew,
    Eddie (Senesi and Family)

way, and for the love and kindness that you always shared with him, God will bless you.

    We love you,
    Janet and Art

  6. Dear Jean and Family,
