OBITUARY:

Sally M. Maguire, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away quietly at home, her family by her side, early Monday morning, October 5th. The beloved wife of Thomas E. Maguire, she was seventy-four years of age.

Born in Winchester to the late Edward D. and Mary B. Fitzgerald, Sally was a graduate of Winchester High School, Class of 1953. Following high school she was employed at the New England Telephone.

In June of 1958, following a three courtship, Sally married her beloved husband Tom, affectionately known as “Finnegan”.

In 1962, they moved from Winchester to the south end of Woburn and later made their home in North Woburn. Shortly after marrying, Sally left her position at the telephone company and devoted herself to raising their four children. She was the consummate mother and grandmother. When her children were young, she taught CCD for St. Charles Parish and also helped coach the Pop Warner Cheerleaders. Sally was very outgoing, kind and selfless with her time for others.

After her children were grown, she returned to work for the City of Woburn as the head of the cafeteria program at Woburn High School, retiring after seventeen years of service.

Sally was also a marvelous cook and hosted the most memorable holidays celebrations at their home in No. Woburn. As a family they took great pleasure in traveling together and over the past forty years they have summered at Hampton Beach.

In her leisure, she enjoyed shopping and was extremely generous and thoughtful in her gift giving. She also loved music and dancing, an activity she and her husband shared.

In later years, Sally and Tom were blessed with seven grandchildren and she never missed attending an activity in which they were involved.

Sally is lovingly survived by her husband, Thomas E. Maguire, her children, Thomas E. Maguire Jr. and his wife Michelle “Mickey” of Woburn, Daniel J. Maguire and his wife Anne Marie of Tewksbury, Edward F. Maguire and his wife Heather of Woburn and Michelle Brennan and her husband Sean of Woburn, her brother, Edward Fitzgerald and his wife Jean of Winchester and her cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Erin and Shannon Maguire, Thomas and Madelyn Maguire, Sean and Elle Brennan. Also surviving are loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, October 8th, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., No. Woburn at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Maguire’s memory to the Woburn High School Scholarship Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 202, Woburn, MA 01801.
