GEORGE P. DEVLIN – in Woburn,Saturday, November 1st, beloved husband of Audrey (McCaffrey) Devlin. Devoted father of Audrey M. Crowley and her husband Joseph and Burlington Police Captain George Paul Devlin, all of Woburn. Dear brother of Anthony Devlin of Medford and the late James, John, Edward and Charles Devlin. Loving grandfather of Megan Grattan and her husband Jay of Woburn and Ellen Koltun and her husband Joseph of W. Roxbury and four great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to call at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main St., Woburn on Tuesday morning, November 4th, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 11. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Mr. Devlin’s memory to the Young at Heart Group, St. Barbara’s Rectory, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, MA 01801.

OBITUARY:

George P. Devlin, a resident of Woburn’s West Side, passed away Saturday, November 1st, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. The beloved husband of Audrey (McCaffrey) Devlin, he was eighty-six years of age.

Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late John and Loretta Devlin. He lost his parents at a young age and, when he was a teenager, George moved to Medford where he graduated from Medford High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Navy in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations.

Following his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to marry his hometown sweetheart, Audrey, to whom he was married for over sixty-three years. Together with their family, they took up residence on Woburn’s West Side in 1963.

Mr. Devlin was a banker, employed by Shawmut Bank for more than thirty-seven years. He retired twenty-four years ago.

As a family, the Devlins spent many memorable times at Lake Winnipesaukee in the summers. He took great pleasure in taking care of his yard. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he rarely missed a dance recital, sporting of academic events in which one of them was involved. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Ireland, Scotland, Bermuda, and Mexico, as well as locations in the United States. A quite, humble man, he most enjoyed his family. Extremely well-informed, he loved to read, particularly biographies and war stories.

He ws preceded in death by four brothers, James, John, Edward, and Charles Devlin.

Surviving along with his wife Audrey are a daughter, Audrey M. Crowley and her husband Joseph and a son, Burlington Police Captain George Paul Devlin, all of Woburn, and a brother, Anthony Devlin of Medford. He was also the loving grandfather of Megan Grattan and her husband Jay of Woburn and Ellen Koltun and her husband Joseph of W. Roxbury, and also leaves great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, November 4th at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 11. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
