OBITUARY:

Mary E. Poole of Woburn passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, September 25th, at the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem , MA, following an extended illness. She was the beloved wife of George R. Poole for the past forty years.

Born in Woburn sixty-five years ago, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Dorothy (Harkins) MacDonald. Mary was a graduate of St. Charles High School with the Class of 1961, and Bridgewater State College with a degree in English in 1965. As a child growing up, Mary spent summers with her brother, sisters, and parents at their summer home on Boston Avenue in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. Mary continued to spend summers at Hampton with her own family when her children were young.

After graduating from college, Mary taught English at the Kennedy Junior High in Woburn, and afterward worked in the Title I program. For a number of years, Mary worked for the Food and Drug Administration in Winchester and Stoneham. Since her retirement, Mary enjoyed a quiet life at home and particularly enjoyed reading, whether it be books or newspapers. Her family meant the most to her, and she followed the day to day activities of her sons and, more recently valued the time spent with her granddaughters.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Patricia Barrone.

Along with her beloved husband George, she leaves three sons: George E. Poole and his wife Pam of Woburn, Timothy R. Poole of Hampton, NH, and Daniel D. Poole of Charlestown, a brother, Edward MacDonald and his wife Dee of Reading, three sisters: Betsy Walker of Florida, Dorothy MacDonald of Hampton, New Hampshire, and Anne DuFault and her husband Art of Florida, and her loving granddaughters, Danielle and Caitlin Poole. She was also the sister-in-law of Louis Barrone of Andover and Anne and Lou Porcelli of New Hampshire.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Monday, September 29th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
