OBITUARY:

Virginia M. (Rierdan) Winn, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away Sunday, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, with her family by her side. The beloved wife of the late Francis X. Win, she was eighty-two years of age. Growing up in the High Street area of the city , she was educated in the Woburn Public Schools, and a graduate with the Class of 1942. Ginny as she was affectionately known, was employed at Barker Lumber following high school, which proved to be fortuitous as she met her future husband, Francis “Frank” Winn, whose family owned Winn Trucking next door to Barker Lumber. Each day, Frank would walk by, see her in the window and knock. In 1948, they were married and shared twenty five wonderful years together before his young passing in 1983. Family was always first in Ginny’s heart. Being a mother came naturally to her and as the proud mother of six children, their needs were always paramount . She loved being a mother and later a grandmother, especially during the holidays when they were all together to share a family dinner and festivities. For several years, during the summer months, the Winns vacationed at Newfound Lake in NH. Both the Winn and Rierdon families would gather for their traditional summer fun. Ginny loved sports and enjoyed tennis, golf, the Boston Red Sox and was a Boston Bruins season ticket holder for many years. Golf was her favorite sport and one which she shared with her children at a very young age. When her daughters were older, they would celebrate Ginny’s birthday at a golf resort where they enjoyed golfing, fine dining, shopping and most importantly, each others company.

Throughout their married years, Ginny and her husband were always very active socially and had established many wonderful friendships.

Ginny was a long time member of the Woburn Country Club and the Women’ s Golf Association which played every Tuesday during the summer months.

Her easy going, fun loving and caring ways will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Ginny was predeceased by her husband, Francis X. Winn, with whom she shared twenty-five years of devoted marriage.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Beverly M. Nigro and her husband Paul of Reading, Michael H. Winn of Woburn, Nancy M. Gay and her husband Bob of Stoneham, Jane A. Winn of Ipswich, James F. Winn of Boynton, FL and Sally A. McCaffrey and her husband Daniel of Billerica, her siblings, Herbert Rierdan of Ca, Jean Langell of Boxford and Marilyn Airey of Groton and her grandchildren, Rachel, James F., Casey E. and Kyle R. Winn. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, August 14th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 10. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Mrs. Winn’s memory to the Alzheimers Disease Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
