OBITUARY:

Joan (Bajdek) Bellomo, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, August 9th at the Winchester Hospital at the age of seventy-four. Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Helen (Malas) Bajdek. Joan was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of St. Stanislaus High School. In 1957, she moved to Woburn which has been her home ever since and where she raised her four children. She was an incredible mother and homemaker, as well as a terrific cook and baker. Joan also loved to knit and crochet, was a New England Patriots fan and an avid Boston Red Sox fan, never missing a game. Most important in her life however, were her children and later her seven grandchildren. Her altruistic spirit that touched not only their lives but the lives many in need. She gave not only gave of her time, but also monetarily whenever possible.

Joan was a full time sales associate for Osco Drug for many years before a debilitating accident in 1985, forever changed her life. Doctors informed her that she would never walk again, but she would prove them wrong with her never give up attitude and was walking the following year. Joan then did what she naturally had done throughout her life, she encouraged other patients to be hopeful and thoughtfully forwarded a letter to former Boston University ice hockey player Travers Roy.

Plagued with severe health problems, Joan was in a nursing home for the past two years, but she remained a spiritual woman with an undying enthusiasm for life.

Joan is lovingly survived by her children, Jean Marie Rao of Billerica, Diane Henderson and her husband Don of Tewksbury, Robert R. Bellomo and his wife Charlene of Belmont, NH and Thomas J. Bellomo and his wife Beth of Hudson, NH, her brother, Stephen “Sonny” Bajdek of Tewksbury, her grandchildren, Keith H.,Frank and Allison Rao, Rheanna, Kaylyn, Aaron, Joshua, Noah and Katie Bellomo. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Wednesday, August 13th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 831 Main St., No. Woburn at 10.
