OBITUARY:

Mary Bertino, a resident of Woburn in recent years, passed away at Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Tuesday, August 5th. The wife of the late Andrew Bertino, who died in 1997, she was ninety-two years of age.

Born in Sicily, she was the daughter of the late John and Sebastiana (Giansiracusa) Moralis. She came to live in the US with her family when she was three years of age and grew up in East Boston, attending schools there. She married her husband Andrew and together they raised their children in East Boston until 1956, when they took up residence in Arlington. Mary loved cooking big family dinners, where her meatballs were always a big hit with everyone. She loved to sing and was gifted with the ability to play the piano by ear. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, especially when they visited during the summers spent at Dennisport.

Following her husband’s death in 1997, Mary moved to Woburn with her son Andrew and his family.

Along with her husband Andrew, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Moralis.

Surviving are three sons: Anthony G. and his wife Janice of Rhode Island, Andrew J. and his wife Elaine of Woburn, and John P. and his wife Jean of Land O’ Lakes, Florida. She was also the cherished grandmother of Tony Bertino and Caryn McGrath, Jennifer and Lori Bertino, Marlene Randolph and Robert, Cheryl, and Andrew Bertino, and great-grandmother of five.

  1. Dear Tony and Family,

The name Bertino caught my eye in the Globe this morning and as I read further I realized the notice was for the mother of my long lost friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Having lost my own parents recently I can understand how difficult it is to lose a parent. I hope memories of the good times bring you peace and ease your pain.

    Sincerely,

    Gayle MacDonald(formerly O’Malley)
