OBITUARY:

Patricia A. (Mahoney) McManus, a longtime resident and former Head Clerk for the City of Woburn’s Auditor’s Office, passed away Monday, June 30th after a long illness, at the Everett Nursing Center. The beloved wife of Joseph W. McManus, she was sixty-seven years of age. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the later Michael and Jean (McNeil) Mahoney. Raised in Allston, she was a graduate of St. Columkille’s High School. As a young girl, Patricia participated in minstrel shows and enjoyed speed skating. She was a member of the Boston Skating Club for many years. Following high school, she worked for the Division of Employment Security. In 1965, she married her husband, Joseph McManus and they made their home in Woburn where they raised their three children. A self-taught classical guitarist, Patricia played and sang to her children. The McManus family loved to travel, especially when the children were younger and they traveled by motor home all across America and Canada. They also summered at Hampton Beach each year. Patricia, who was extremely kind-hearted and possessed a wonderful sense of humor, often never got jokes, but graciously always laughed. She had an adventurous spirit and learned to ski at the age of fifty. She and her son enjoyed skiing at Killington in Vermont. In 1980, Patricia went to work for the City of Woburn, initially assigned to the Clerk’s Office and eventually becoming the Head Clerk in the Auditor’s Office. She retired four years ago. Patricia was a longtime member of St. Charles Church and choir. She also loved to play Bingo and visits to Foxwoods.

Patricia is lovingly survived by her husband, Joseph W. McManus, her children, Carolyn Bagiardi and her husband Larry of FL, Kevin McManus of Boston and Gerald McManus and his wife Zuleau of Boston, her siblings, Gerald Mahoney of Westport, CT and Frances Melia of Andover and her grandchildren, Matthew Bagiardi, Christopher and Sean McManus. A Funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, July 3rd, at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 8:45 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
