OBITUARY:

Elaine S. (Pinelli) Tofuri of Woburn passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15th, with family and friends by her bedside, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. The beloved wife of Charles A. “Chuck” Tofuri Jr., she was fifty years of age.

Born in Boston, Elaine was the daughter of Gertrude A. (Maltese) Pinelli of Woburn and Michael V. Pinelli and his wife Joan of Reading. Raised in Stoneham, she was a graduate of Stoneham High School and continued her education at Bentley College before transferring to Fisher Jr. College. She subsequently was employed as a bookkeeper with the law firm Schwartz and Schwartz, and later the law firm of Martin Kantravitz.

In October of 1982, Elaine married her husband Chuck, whom she had met shortly after he completed six and one half years in the United States Air Force. They made their home in North Woburn where their raised a son and a daughter. Elaine was the consummate wife, mother and friend, always tending to their needs before her own. She and her husband traveled all over the region to attend their daughter’s dance competitions and never missed their son’s ice hockey games. Elaine loved Loon Mountain, which was a favorite family destination during the summer months and when they were home in Woburn, their backyard was her haven. She loved to barbeque and entertain friends at poolside. Elaine also loved to read, especially biographies and had great insight when it came to solving a mystery which jokingly was referred to as “Elaine’s view.”

Elaine was an amazing woman whose family and friends helped her sustain her fight for life which began last November on her fiftieth birthday, when she was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Elaine is lovingly survived by her husband, Charles A. “Chuck” Tofuri Jr., her children, Anthony C. and Andrea M. Tofuri of Woburn, her parents, Gertrude (Maltese) Pinelli of Woburn and Michael V. Also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She always let us know her greatest pleasure was her family. She told me recently during one of our talks how very proud of the young adults you have become and we know you will continue to make her proud.
