OBITUARY:

Melena M. “Millie” Faro, a lifelong resident of North Woburn, passed away in Wilmington on Saturday, May 10th, at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfio S. “Freddie” Faro, who died in 2003, for more than fifty-seven years.

Born in Woburn, Millie was the daughter of the late Louis and Angelina (Lopardo) DeLuca. She attended Woburn High School and worked at Grant’s Department Store in Woburn following her graduation. Starting as a sales clerk, she eventually worked in the office and later as a manager. Following her marriage in 1946, she stayed home to raise her children. Later on she worked for Sylvania for twelve years, where she was a secretary, and then at Microwave in Burlington. She retired when she was sixty-two.

Millie loved to travel, and together with her family enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls, Amish country, Hawaii, and locations throughout the United States. Salisbury Beach was a favorite destination in the summertime.

Millie was devoted to her family. Following her retirement she helped care for her grandchildren and she looked forward to their school activities and events. Every year she spent Christmas at her daughter’s home and Thanksgiving at her brother’s, where she loved to reminisce about the “good old days.” She loved to crochet and presented every member of her family with at least one lovingly crafted afghan. She also enjoyed time spent at the Woburn Senior Center and at Lions Club events.

Preceding her in death, along with her husband Alfio “Freddie” Faro, were four brothers, Charles, John, Joseph, and Anthony DeLuca.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol A. King of Wilmington, a son, Alfred J. Faro of Woburn, and her brother, Donald DeLuca of Woburn. She was also the beloved grandmother of Dr. Daniel J. King and his wife Stacey of Wilmington and Stephen A. Faro of Chelmsford. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Ann DeLuca of Wilmington, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Wednesday, May 14th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Millie’s memory to the Woburn Senior Center, 144 School Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
