Kimberly A Friel

Kimberly A. “Kimmie” Friel of Woburn passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 7th. The beloved daughter of Dennis W. Friel and the late Carolyn “Cal” (Collins) Friel, she was twenty-one years young.

Born in Winchester, “Kimmie,” as she was so well known, lived in Woburn and attended the Linscott Rumford Elementary School, the Kennedy Middle School, and was a graduate of Woburn Memorial High School, Class of 2005. She continued her education at Suffolk University where she had studied business. While pursuing her education she worked part-time at Hillside Florist, Dunkin Donuts and Tony Pilla’s Restaurant. Most recently, she was employed as a dental assistant for Coakley and Trainor Dental Health Care Office in Woburn.

While in elementary school, she began playing soccer and continued right through high school. Soccer was a familiar sport to the Friel family, as her older brother, Jeff also played. The entire family spent a great deal of time at the Soccer Fields located at the Joyce Middle School, where the picnic area, adjacent to the snack shack, was named “Cal’s Corner,” dedicated to Kimmie’s late mother Cal, for all her tireless efforts assisting with the soccer program.

Kimmie also was involved in Little League softball, jazz and tap dancing, and she loved dressing up for her recitals.

Athletic throughout her life, she enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, golfing and following the Boston Red Sox. She especially loved the outdoors during the summer months when she would go boating at Lake Ossipee in New Hampshire. Her physical abilities were matched by her personality as she exuded charm and a tireless zest for life. She was beautiful in every way, with an infectious smile and a flair for fashion. Kimmie maintained many close friendships and touched the lives of so many people who will truly miss her bubbly and vivacious spirit.

Kimmie was predeceased by her mother, Carolyn “Cal” (Collins) Friel, her maternal grandparents, John and Rita Collins, and her paternal grandfather, Daniel F. Friel, Sr.

She is lovingly survived by her father, Dennis W. Friel and his fiancee, Maureen Finn of Woburn, her brother, Jeffrey W. Friel and his friend Lauren Borgasano of Woburn, her grandmother, Hazel M. Friel of Woburn, her aunts and uncles, Noreen M. and Jeff Mohler of PA, Daniel Friel Jr. and his wife Arlene of Andover, John and Connie Friel of CA, Janet and John Joyce of Woburn, Joanne and James DeSimone of Woburn, Nancy and Thomas Dattilo of NH, Tom and Kathy Hackett of NC, Tom and Zoa Collins of FL and John and Arlene Collins also of FL and many loving cousins and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to call at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, April 11th from 2 to 5 and 6:30 to 9 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, on Saturday morning, April 12th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Donations may be made in Kimberly’s memory to the Woburn High School Scholarship Fund, Inc., P.O.Box 202, Woburn, MA 01801-0302.
