JOSEPH D. FITZGERALD – in Woburn, March 30th. Beloved husband of the late Helen B. (Foley) Fitzgerald. Devoted father of JoAnn M. Davis and her husband Thomas of Sandwich and Joseph D. Fitzgerald, Jr. and his companion Kathleen Chase of Buxton, ME. Predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Loving grandfather of Kathleen Plummer, Kerri Pattison, Mark Loud and Melissa Langaas. Also survived by six great-grandchildren. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, April 4th at 8:15 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Calling hours Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Hospice Care, Inc., 100 Sylvan Road, #500, Woburn, MA 01801.

OBITUARY:

Joseph D. Fitzgerald of Woburn passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 30th, after an illness of several months. Husband of the late Helen B. (Foley) Fitzgerald, who died in 1975, he was ninety years of age.

Born and raised in Lawrence, he was the son of the late James and Annie (Gunning) Fitzgerald. As a young man he worked at the mills in Lawrence, and later at the Charlestown Navy Yard. A veteran of World War II, he served with the US Army Air Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

Mr. Fitzgerald was employed as an accountant by the Internal Revenue Service in Andover for over fifteen years until he retired in 1982.

He led an active life until recent months. He enjoyed reading and was a loyal fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.

Along with his wife Helen, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sister.

Surviving are a daughter, JoAnn M. Davis and her husband Thomas of Sandwich and a son, Joseph D. Fitzgerald, Jr. and his companion Kathleen Chase of Buxton, Maine. He was also the loving grandfather of Kathleen Plummer, Kerri Pattison, Mark Loud and Melissa Langaas, and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Friday, April 4th at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Burial will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Hospice Care, Inc., 100 Sylvan Road, #500, Woburn, MA 01801.
