Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, April 1st at 8:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 9. OBITUARY:

William E. “Billy” Casey of Reading, a former resident of Woburn, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Saturday, March 29th, following a short illness. He was fifty-nine years of age.

Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late William H. and Eleanor (Taft) Casey. He grew up in Woburn and attended Woburn schools. A talented ball player as a youngster, he enjoyed sports throughout his life.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the US Army from 1967 to 1969, and continued with the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1973.

Bill worked for J.J. Riley Leather Company earlier in his life. He later worked in shipping and receiving for Dole and Bailey Company in Woburn, and more recently was employed by Checker Cab Company. He enjoyed the interaction with his customers and loved talking to everyone.

His favorite pastime was fishing, and he could often be found at Horn Pond or at the pier in Boston. He especially loved children, and it gave him great pleasure to spend time with his grandchildren in recent years.

He was a member of the VFW in Woburn and the American Fishing Association.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a brother, Stephen Casey.

Surviving are three daughters: Dawn Hammond and her husband Mark and Sabrina Blais and her husband Craig, all of Woburn, and Jennifer Casey of Tampa, Florida, four brothers and sisters: Dennis Casey and Janice Vitale, both of Florida, Donald Casey of Billerica, and Barbara McInerny of Woburn. He was also the loving grandfather of Terrence Casey and Kaylee, Madison and Cassidy Blais.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, April 1st at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn at 9. Interment will follow in the Soldier’s Lot at Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem Street, Woburn.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Billy’s memory to Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.

    Today was the one of the toughest things that I had ever done and I tried to stay strong like you, but I know it’s ok to cry. You made me for who I am today and I want to thank you for being my father and I could not ask for anything more.You taught me everything and now in your memory I will teach my kids everything you taught me.I respect you for being a single father of us three and you never had turned you back on us.I also learned alot more about you in that last couple of days. I met alot of people that you knew that we have never met and they had shared some of their memories and how much you impact their lives as well as ours. You were great with our kids and they loved you. You were their Papi and I will make sure they will remeber you forever. I still am not ready to say goodbye but I guess we had really Know choice but I know this is not the end we will see each other again and until then I know you will be shinning your light down on me.     Sending you my deepest condolences. I’ll always remember Billy coming into the store(“Fred & Carol’s”)and shooting the bull with me. Sometimes reminiscing of those days-gone-by as well as giving me the low-down on the hot fishing spots and ESPECIALLY when they “stocked the pond”. Billy always had that kind of smile on his face which made you smile. He’s one of those people that you will never forget. I certainly won’t.
