OBITUARY:

Rita M. Costello, a longtime resident of Burlington, passed away quietly early Friday morning, March 21st, at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester. The beloved daughter of the late Francis and Rebecca (Abraham) Costello, she was ninety years of age.

Rita was born, raised and educated in Cambridge. As a young girl growing up during the Depression, she and her sister acquired excellent sewing skills which helped a great deal during that time as they were able to make much of their own clothing. Rita also possessed great cooking skills, providing wonderful meals for her family, especially her homemade baked beans which everyone raved about. She also enjoyed ceramics. Rita was a very active woman right up until her late eighties and traveled extensively over the continent during her lifetime. She and her sister, Edith, always had a suitcase packed for last minute trips and visited destinations such as Israel and Australia.

During the early thirties, Rita was employed at Raytheon where she worked for forty-five years as an assembler. She retired twenty-one years ago which left more time for travel and spending time with her nieces and nephews, who she regarded as her own children.

Rita resided in Somerville for a time before settling in Burlington in 1966 where she remained until a year ago and was an active parishoner at St. Margaret’s Parish and an active member with the Burlington Senior Center.

Rita was predeceased by her siblings, Frances Russo, Evelyn Ford, Marion Calvert, Francis Jr., John and Edith T. Costello and her many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to call at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street Woburn on Wednesday, March 26th from 10 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow in St. Margaret’s Church, 109 Winn Street, Burlington, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
