OBITUARY:

Samuel J. Nardone, Sr., a lifelong resident of Woburn and former business owner here, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Sunday, March 16th, in his eightieth year. He was the beloved husband of Nancy C. (Lopez) Nardone for over fifty-three years.

Raised in East Woburn, he was the son of the late Vanazio and Josephine (Petrillo) Nardone. He graduated from Woburn High School with the Class of 1946 and joined the Naval Reserves, serving as an instructor for the US Navy in Boston for eight years. Following his marriage he settled with his family on Woburn’s West Side, where he and Nancy raised their family.

Mr. Nardone was a loyal and respected employee of General Foods, formerly Atlantic Gelatin, in East Woburn for 44 years. He also owned and operated, along with his brother Tony, the Nardone Brothers Service Station, located at the current site of Montvale Tire at the corner of Green Street in Woburn, for many years.

Described by his family as “a trusted friend, a perfect husband and father, and an adoring grandfather,” he will be dearly missed and his absence leaves a great void for all that have known him.

Sam was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Vincent Nardone, and a sister, Clementine Marcella.

Along with his wife Nancy, he is survived by three sons: Samuel J., Jr. and his wife Patricia of Salem, New Hampshire, Michael D. and his wife Anne of Wakefield, and Scott B. and his wife Mary of Wrentham, and his beloved grandchildren, Tyler and Zachary, Emily and Jake, and George and Sam Nardone.

A funeral service will be held in the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, March 20th at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow in Forest Glade Cemetery, 460 Lowell Street, Wakefield.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Donations may be made in Sam’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, or to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services.
