John K. Grady, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away at Winchester Hospital unexpectedly early Monday, January 21st, at the age of fifty-three. He was the son of Bella (Abreu) Grady of Woburn and the late Michael Grady.
John was born in Woburn and attended Woburn schools, graduating from Woburn High School with the Class of 1972. A Vietnam War veteran, he entered the US Air Force and served in Thailand, where he worked as a mechanic servicing U2 spy planes.
For many years he worked in the HVAC field as a sheet metal worker and mechanic. A member of the sheet metal workers union, he spent a number of years with Lohrman HVAC in Woburn. John was also a bartender at the VFW in Woburn.
A kind, generous man, he was known for his willingness to do anything for anyone. He was a fantastic cook and enjoyed preparing meals for friends and family. John’s family was most important in his life, and he had a great love of the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and camping were favorite pastimes.
He was a member of the George Campbell Post 101 American Legion, the VFW, and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Preceding him in death in addition to his father were his son, Kevin Grady, who died less than a year ago, two brothers, Alan and Paul Grady, and a sister, Ann Grady.
Surviving along with his mother, Bella Grady of Woburn, are a daughter, Jessica Doucette and her husband Michael of Lowell, his dear longtime companion, Tracey Bishop and her son Kevin Tacey, and his brother, Michael Grady of Somerville.
The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Thursday, January 24th at 8:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 9. Interment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m.
