ELLEN W. SCANLON – in Woburn, January 5th. Daughter of the late Martin F. and Delia (Whelan) Scanlon. Beloved sister of Loy Carroll of Lexington and her late husband Harry, and John Scanlon of Woburn. Loving aunt of Mary Jane Doherty of Hingham and Ann Carroll of Arlington. Also survived by three grandnieces: Kerri, Katlyn, and Meghan Doherty. Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, January 8th at 9:15 a.m. Funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. OBITUARY:

Ellen W. Scanlon, a lifelong Woburn resident, passed away at Arnold House in Stoneham early Saturday, January 5th, following a lengthy illness. The daughter of the late Martin F. and Delia (Whelan) Scanlon, she was eighty-one.

Born and raised in Woburn, Ellen graduated from St. Charles High School with the Class of 1943. Upon her graduation, she accepted employment with the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston, where she remained for over forty-three years. She retired as an insurance underwriter in 1987.

Until ten years ago, she lived in the family home on Ellis Street in Woburn. Since 1996 she had been a resident of Place Lane in the Central Square section of the city. She was a daily communicant of St. Charles Church for most of her life. She loved spending time with her siblings and particularly her nieces and grandnieces.

Along with her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Harry Carroll.

Surviving are her sister, Loy Carroll of Lexington and her brother, John Scanlon of Woburn, two nieces, Mary Jane Doherty of Hingham and Ann Carroll of Arlington, and three grandnieces: Kerri, Katlyn, and Meghan Doherty.

The funeral will be held from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn, on Tuesday, January 8th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, at 10. Burial will be private.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
